Greeting people can be confusing(令人迷惑的), especially during cross-cultural communications. Will a simple handshake do? Should you give a hug or offer a kiss on the cheek (臉頰)? People in different countries have their own greetings.

During the COVID-19 outbreak(爆發(fā)), greeting others is becoming even more confusing. The infectious(易傳染的) novel coronavirus has challenged traditional greetings such as shaking hands, kissing and hugging. After all, close body contact will increase the chance of spreading the virus.

People have realized the risk and stopped using some traditional greetings. On March 1, for example, German Interior Minister Seehofer(德國(guó)內(nèi)政部長(zhǎng)澤霍夫) turned down a handshake from German Chancellor Merkel(德國(guó)總理默克爾). Instead of getting upset, Merkel just laughed and said, “It is the right thing to do.”

Health departments (部門(mén)) in many countries have also suggested that people change their regular greetings to safer ones.

Shaking hands is a common gesture to show respect around the world. Now in the US, the elbow bump (碰肘) is the new handshake. US Surgeon General Jerome Adams introduced the elbow bump, which has been used by political(政治的) leaders, health officials and professional(職業(yè)的) athletes. Brad Hazzard, a health minister in New South Wales, Australia, advised people to pat () each other on the back in place of a handshake.

In France, kissing on the cheek is a common greeting, even between people who have just met. French Health Minister Olivier Veran has advised the public not to do this. Italian authorities (官方) have made the same suggestion. French lifestyle expert Philippe Lichtfus said simply looking into a person's eyes is enough.

In the United Arab Emirates(聯(lián)合阿拉伯酋長(zhǎng)國(guó)) and Qatar(卡塔爾), people rub (摩擦) their noses together upon meeting. Their health departments have advised them to wave only.

In the face of such changes, how should you go about changing the way you greet people? Australian manner expert Susan Wilson has suggested simply greeting people by looking them in the eye, smiling and saying hello.

根據(jù)“The infectious(易傳染的) novel coronavirus has challenged traditional greetings such as shaking hands, kissing and hugging. After all, close body contact will increase the chance of spreading the virus.” Because it will increase the virus spreading chance.

根據(jù)“US Surgeon General Jerome Adams introduced the elbow bump, which has been used by political(政治的) leaders, health officials and professional(職業(yè)的) athletes.” Political leaders, health officials and professional athletes.

根據(jù)“Brad Hazzard, a health minister in New South Wales, Australia, advised people to pat () each other on the back in place of a handshake.” To pat each other on the back.

根據(jù)“French Health Minister Olivier Veran has advised the public not to do this. Italian authorities have made the same suggestion.” France and Italy.

根據(jù)“In the face of such changes, how should you go about changing the way you greet people? Australian manner expert Susan Wilson has suggested simply greeting people by looking them in the eye, smiling and saying hello.” I will smile and say hello to him.

On Jan 26, people around the world were shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Kobe Bryant(科比布萊恩特), one of the NBA's most legendary (傳奇性的) players. The 41-year-old, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant and seven others died when their helicopter crashed in California, US.

People from all walks of life have respected the late basketball superstar — not just for his achievements on the court, but for his genuine(真誠(chéng)的) personality and the inspiration(激勵(lì)) he provided to so many people.

In the basketball world, Bryant ranks among the top players of all time. Fans remember him as the player who helped the Los Angeles Lakers win five NBA championships during his 20-year-long career. He started out as a basketball prodigy(神童) who skipped college and took his talents directly to the NBA: His deadly agility (敏捷) and aggressive tactics(進(jìn)攻性的策略) earned him the nickname Black Mamba(進(jìn)攻性極強(qiáng)的一種非洲毒蛇). “Mamba Mentality is you're going, you're competing(競(jìng)爭(zhēng)), you're not worried about the end result," Bryant said. “It's all about focusing on the process and trusting in the hard work when it matters most."

Off the court, he was known as a successful businessman, buying stakes(股份) in several companies, including Alibaba and Dell. He also left footprints in the movie industry, winning an Oscar in 2018 with his short film Dear Basketball.

He was also known as a proud family man. His friend, baseball star Derek Jeter, remembered him as such in an essay:“Throughout our friendship, the most meaningful conversations we had — they were always about family."
