Blue Ocean Aquarium is a great place for families to take a holiday. Children love to see the sea animals and watch movies about sharks in it.
Last Saturday morning, Mr Jackson took his wife and two little sons to the aquarium. At the ticket office, he asked, "How much shall I pay to get in?" The woman at the ticket office answered, "The price is 20 dollars for each adult or any kid older than five. We let kids in free(免費) if they are five or younger. How old are your kids?" Mr Jackson said, "The older one is six and the younger one is thee.  I think I must buy three tickets. " The woman was surprised. She said, "Sir, don't you want to save 20 dollars? If you tell me your older son is five, I won't know the difference. "  Mr Jackson said with a smile, "Yes, that sounds right,

閱讀與表達。
Happiness is U-shaped, for we are happier at the start and end of our lives but hit a slump (低潮) when
we are middle-aged, scientists from England and America say. They have studied the information on the
mental (心理的) health of two million people from 80 countries.
In England, the probability of low spirits for men and women reaches the highest point at around 44 years
of age. In America, though, there is a big difference between men and women. Among women, unhappiness
reaches the highest point at around the age of 40, but among men, it is about 50.
But the U-shape of happiness is unchanging around the world, and the mid-life sadness happens regardless
of marital status (婚姻狀況), changes in jobs or pay. It happens to men and women, to single and married
people, to rich and poor, and to those with and without children.
One possibility may be that people realize many of their dreams won't come true at middle age. The
researchers said another reason could be that seeing their middle- aged friends die one by one, people begin to
value their own remaining years and their Iove of the nature and long for peaceful and free life once more.
But the good news is that if people make it to aged 70 and are still physically fit, they are on average (平均)
as happy as a 20-year-old person. For the average people in the modem world, the fall in mental health and
happiness doesn't come on suddenly in a single year. Only in their fifties do people get out of this low period.
1. Do people feel happy at the start and end of their lives?
    _____________________________________________________________________________________
2. Where are the scientists in the passage from?
    _____________________________________________________________________________________
3. When does the unhappiness reach the highest point among men in America, at the age of 40 or about 50?
    _____________________________________________________________________________________
4. What is the good news for a 70-year-old healthy man?
    _____________________________________________________________________________________
5. How will a teenager feel in his future life according to the passage?

The English language we know today is about six hundred years old. For half that time, English was just the language of the people living in England. The modem English language grew from about the year 1400. Now English is the most widely spoken language in the world. It is one of the working languages at International meetings, business, science and in other fields.

The differences between American English and British English are not very great. Written English is more or less the same in both Britain and America, though there are some spelling differences. For example, centre, license, color and traveled are spelt center, license, color and traveled in American English. In America, "cock, rubber, ill, holiday, lorry, and post... " are called "rooster, eraser, sick, vacation, truck, mail... ". But people from the two countries can still understand each other easily.

There are only a very small number of differences in grammar between American English and British English. The most important differences are in spoken English. Some words may have two kinds of pronunciations. You may wonder "Which is correct?" The answer is that it doesn't matter. But you should speak either American English or British English. Don't try to speak both at the same time!

1. When did the modem English language begin to grow?

2. Is English the only working language at International meetings?

3. What is the word "color" spelt in British English?

4. What is the word "ill" called in American English?

5. How many differences are there in grammar between American English and British English?
