What will life be like in 50 years? A group of experts from the UK have painted us a picture-a report on life in the future. By 2069, according to the report, the digital revolution(電子革命) will have greatly changed the world. It will be like what the Industrial Revolution did 250 years ago. What impossible things will become possible? Let's take a look.
Underwater highways
They will be built under the sea. People will travel in pods(吊艙) through underwater tubes (管道). It will take less than an hour to travel between the UK and mainland Europe.
Flying taxis and buses
To stop traffic jams, people might take flying taxis and buses .For long-distance travel, they might take super-fast rockets.Travel time between London and New York could be just 30 minutes.
Space hotels
Don't know where to go during the holiday? Outer space might be a good place. People will have fun in space hotels. These hotels will be built near the moon or the planets of our solar system.
Self-cleaning homes

At times we all get angry when we are driving. It might be because we are stuck in a traffic jam or behind a very slow driver. It might be because we think another driver has done something very stupid and dangerous. Whatever the reason is, it seems that getting angry in a car is something that happens more and more often and there is now a special term for it—road rage. Some experts even think it is a kind of mental illness! How can we recognize (識(shí)別) this “illness” of road rage?
There are two kinds of road rage: aggressive (侵略的) driving and aggressive reactions(反應(yīng)) to the way other people are driving. Aggressive driving can take different forms:
●Driving much faster than the speed limit.
●Increasing your speed very quickly.
●Changing driving ways very suddenly and blocking another car.
●Moving into a parking space where another car is trying to park.
There are also different reactions to the way other people are driving. These include:
●Making rude signs at others.
●Shouting at others and threatening them.
●Driving into another person’s car on purpose.
●Hitting somebody.
Road rage is certainly not a joke. There have been incidents (嚴(yán)重事件) because of road rage which have led to serious injuries (重傷) and even deaths.
Experts think that one reason for road rage is that films show a lot of examples of fast and aggressive driving such as car chases. Experts also think that the punishments for dangerous driving are not serious enough. In the UK in the last 30 years, the police have been quite successful in reducing the number of people who drink and drive. They are now working to stop people using mobile phones when they are driving. Let’s hope they can have the same success with the road rage.
1.What does the underlined word “It” refer to?
A.Being stuck in a traffic jam. B.Being stuck behind a very slow driver.
C.Getting angry with traffic lights. D.Getting angry when driving.
2.What’s “road rage” according to the passage?
A.A form of getting angry. B.A person who drives fast.
C.A kind of traffic jam. D.An action of driving slowly.
3.What’s the main idea of the last paragraph?
A.Aggressive driving is much worse than aggressive reactions.
B.Road rage can be controlled without any punishments for the drivers.
C.The accidents caused by using mobile phones have been reduced successfully.
D.The police will be able to do a lot to deal with road rage in the future.
4.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.How to Deal with Road Rage. B.Road Rage.
C.Aggressive Driving. D.Changing Your Driving Habits.

A Your temperature can affect(影響) how you feel about other people. A study showed that experiencing physical warmth gives people a more positive attitude(積極的態(tài)度). For example, if you're holding a cup of hot coffee, you are probably more selfless towards others. | B About one in 10 people are left-handed. Many people think being left-handed happens for no reason. But. a new study shows that it’s caused by genes. British scientists have found genetic instructions(基因指令)in human DNA. They might cause people to be left-handed at birth. The instructions affect the part of the brain that deals with (處理) language. This might be why left- handers are better at learning languages. |
C A group of French researchers found that children with older brothers take longer to develop language skills. These children had a two-month delay (延遲) in language development on average(平均) compared to children with older sisters. Researchers think this is because older brothers talk more often in order to draw their parents' attention. Older sisters might talk with their younger sisters or brothers more. | D Are you a quiet person? Maybe you can try to pretend(假裝) to be outgoing. This will make you happier, according to a study by US scientists. They asked 123 people to try more outgoing behaviors, such as talking more and being more active for one week.
