Books written in the Gothic(哥特式) style are popular all over the world. A feature of these books is that they usually mix fiction, horror and death. They have romantic scenes at times. Gothic style books first appeared in the late 1700s in Great Britain. They were especially popular during Victorian times(1837-1901). Many of s novels we read today, such as Jane Eyre and Frankenstein, are from that time period.
Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by British author Robert Louis Stevenson(1850-1894) is a famous Gothic novel.
One of the story's most important characters is Dr Jekyll, a doctor with a kind heart who lives in London. He and his close friend Mr. Utterson often have dinner together. But one day, Utterson notices Dr. Jekyll behaving strangely after asking him about a crime that happened outside Dr. Jekyll's house. He says that a young girl had been killed by a man. The police believe lat the man may have committed many crimes, but they couldn't find any clues. Mr. Utterson shows great interest in the case, only to find out that the murderer is Dr Jekyll himself.
In fact, Dr Jekyll had invented a kind of medicine that turned him into Mr. Hyde, an evil (邪惡)man. He believed that all humans have an evil side. He wanted to see if he could move the evil part away from the good part.
In the book, the author shows human's dual(雙重的)nature. People can have both an evil side and a good side, just like Dr Jekyll: He looks kind on the outside, but he can also be a cold-blooded murderer on the inside. The author uses detailed comparisons and, descriptions to explain the way both sides of Dr Jekyll work Because of this, the novel turned out to be a successful one and has been spoken highly of by thousands of millions of readers since it was published. It has been made into over 120 stage and film versions(版本) so far.

Hanfu fashion has become more and more popular with young people. China has followed Western fashion designs in recent years, but a growing number of young people are now looking to the past for fashion ideas.
If you look closely around your city, you might notice hanfu, the traditional clothing of the Han dynasty. In a recently published report by an online shopping platform, about 2 million hanfu clothes were sold in 2019, nearly 4 times as many as those sold in 2018. Most of the buyers are between 19 and 24 years old.
But why has this traditional clothing become popular with young Chinese people? For some of them, it's a costume for relaxation. Dafan, a 24-year-old college student, told CGTN that dressing in hanfu is a way for her to get away from the troubles of real life. Modern clothing, on the other hand, represents the identity (身份) people need to show every day. "Hanfu and modern clothing help me to show the different sides in me," she explained.
Other teenagers like hanfu because of the culture behind it. They regard it as a way to reconnect with traditions. Its wide sleeves, crossed collars and flowing robes bring people back to ancient times.
"Hanfu is the symbol of the Chinese traditional culture." Nanhe, a 21-year-old costume studio owner, told CGTN.

On October 25th, 2018, Christie's (佳士得拍賣行) had a very unusual sale. It sold the first piece of artwork created by artificial intelligence for $432,500.
The painting was created by an AI program written by Obvious, an AI research studio in Paris. Soon questions rang through the media: Is this art? Who is the artist? How about the owner? Are machines now creative, too?
All good questions—but too early. The technology is far from advanced (高級(jí)的), as Obvious suggested, because the public is completely confused about what AI is, and what it is able to do.
In fact, the painting was just one of the countless artworks AI could produce. It was the team behind Obvious that chose this one. The team first programmed the AI, and then they chose 15,000 paintings to train the software (軟件). Connecting the painting with the algorithm (計(jì)算程序) was just a clever marketing tool. AI did not produce the painting on its own at all.
Lots of artists are using the same software as Obvious, but none of them are worried about losing jobs because of AI. As they build the machine themselves and work with it every day, they know how limited it is. What interests the artists is to create works together: the way AI lets them go beyond their natural ability.
Artists also laugh at the idea that AI is creative. It certainly creates things, sometimes in new and successful ways, but it does so without a purpose. It is the artist who shapes its output. "You make a fire and it produces interesting shapes, but in the end the fire is not creative. AI is a glorified (被美化的) campfire," said one of the pioneers of using AI in art.
1.The underlined word "confused" in Paragraph 3 probably means _________.
A.easy to understand B.angry C.unable to think clearly D.certain
2.Paragraph 4 mainly talks about ________.
A.what the painting was created for
B.how AI learned to paint
C.why the painting was connected with the algorithm
D.why the painting was not created by AI alone
3.According to the article, the AI technology makes artists able to __________.
A.paint on the computers B.come up with new ideas
C.improve their painting skills D.save time and money
4.We can learn from the article that the AI technology __________.
A.can produce countless artworks B.requires no programming
C.can think for itself D.makes artists lose jobs
