【題目】— What do you want to be when you grow up?

— I want to be a teacher, but my parents________me to be a doctor.

A.promiseB.suggestC.reportD.encourage

but但是,表轉(zhuǎn)折;encourage sb. to do sth.鼓勵(lì)(某人)去做(某事),根據(jù)上文“I want to be a teacher我想成為一名教師”,可知前面三項(xiàng)不合句意結(jié)構(gòu),故選D。

【題目】 At the Cool Beans Cafe in Virginia, US, a dollar can buy you a cup of fresh coffee.

But your purchase(購(gòu)買) also helps the seventh-grade students with special needs who run the cafe at Poquoson Middle School.

They get experience with job skills and social communication outside of the classroom by working at the cafe. “They really get a lot out of this,” said Heather Hopkins, the teacher who started the cafe and taught the students how to run it.

The five students who run the cafe each have a specific job. Jake Mann, the supply manager, looks at customers’ online orders and helps Braden Jobst, the barista (咖啡師), prepare the coffee. Alex Sarber, the barista assistant, adds any extra ingredients that the customers want.

The drinks are delivered by J.J. Shibuya. Jasmine Baker, the cashier (收銀員), goes on deliveries with J.J. and collects money and tips from their customers.

Hopkins started the coffee shop program this school year with $1,600 (10,040 yuan), which was provided by the Virginia Department of Education. The department gave the money to create opportunities for students to practice self-determined behavior and independence.

But even though the shop runs like a business, there’s plenty of opportunity to have fun. For example, Jake likes to pose for photos and admire pictures of the shop’s employees (雇員).

The students take pride in their work. They have discussed their work at a school board meeting and at a recent expo (展覽會(huì)) of instructional programs at Poquoson schools. For them, running the cafe isn’t just about selling coffee. It’s about improving their social skills and discovering the tools that they’ll need to succeed in life.

【題目】 (One day, Gulliver was caught in a storm and his ship hit a rock, then damaged. He was washed to the beach. When he woke up, he found himself in Lilliput and a lot of' tiny people were around him.)

The Emperor spoke in a low voice but I could hear all the words clearly.

His Majesty and I often spoke to each other but neither of us understood a single word. I tried words from many languages. No one could understand me, not even the cleverest of the Emperor's followers.

After about two hours the Emperor left. His wife, children and their servants went also. There were strong guards around me. This was to stop the crowd of people from hurting me.

An officer told the guards to hold six men who made me angry. These men were given to me and I had to choose their punishment. I put five of them in my pocket. Then I pretended(假裝)to eat the sixth man.

The poor man screamed terribly. The guards were worried when they saw my knife in my hand. I only cut the rope round his hands. Then I put him on his feet and let him go. I lifted the other five men out of my pocket and put them gently on the ground too.

The people and the soldiers were very pleased with my great kindness. They told the Emperor about it immediately. Emperor ordered his men to make a bed for me and they had to join six hundred of their little beds together to make one bed for me.

At the same time the Emperor asked all his advisers for their advice on how to deal with me. They were very worried. If they set me free, I might be dangerous. I was eating so much food that soon all the people would be hungry. The farmers could not grow enough food to feed all of us.

The wise men thought that they should kill me. But they would not be able to bury(埋葬)me. My dead body would smell. This might cause much illness all over the country.

1Why did the tiny people hurt Gulliver at first?

A.They just wanted to make fun of him.B.They thought he would attack the king.

C.They wanted to kill him and got his knife.D.They were afraid of him because he was too big.

2The underlined word "them" in Paragraph 4 refers to(指代)" ________" .

A.the guardsB.the six men

C.the officersD.the Emperor's children

3What do the last two paragraphs mainly talk about?

A.The Emperor and his men's decision to kill Gulliver.

B.The Emperor and his men's communication with Gulliver.

C.The Emperor and his men's difficulties in dealing with Gulliver.

D.The Emperor and his people's pleasure with Gulliver's great kindness.

4What prevented the tiny people from killing Gulliver?

A.Gulliver's size and knife.B.Gulliver's strength and wisdom.

C.The king and his wife's order.D.The trouble of his dead body.
