【題目】 It is widely agreed that the over-use of fossil fuels, such as coal and oil has caused serious environmental problems. Scientists are trying to find new clean energies that do not pollute the air, the water or the ground. Solar power is one of them.
Solar power is a kind of electricity which is produced by taking energy from the sun, using solar panels (面板,電池板). The power is easy to get and will never be used up. Whenever it is sunny, there is the power. The power is clean and renewable. It helps to reduce waste and pollution, which is great for the environment. In the areas that are too far away to send electricity to or not easy to build electric power plants, solar power is especially necessary. It enables the people there to use lights, TVs, computers, washing machines, fridges and many other things.
Therefore, more and more countries, such as China, the USA, Japan and India, encourage scientists to develop practical technology to put solar power to use. However, the power is not as widely used as expected.
One of the challenges is that a solar power system needs sunshine. Countries or areas with a lot of rain, like the UK, are not suitable to develop such power system. Secondly, a solar power panels requires a very large site to fix enough solar panels to collect sunlight and change it into electricity. Maybe an area in the desert would be one of the perfect places for such a plant to build. What’s more, solar panels are expensive at present though the energy itself doesn’t cost anything.
Today scientists are working hard to develop more practical and cheaper solar power system. Maybe one day solar power will be one of the most important clean energies in our life.

【題目】 Sometimes our body does things we don't ask it to do. Sneezing(打噴嚏),coughing, blinking(眨眼睛)and even yawning(打哈欠)are examples of involuntary movements or reflex actions(反射動(dòng)作). What makes our body do these things?
These involuntary actions are a response(反應(yīng))to a stimulus(刺激). When we do these things, our body is trying to protect itself. If an irritant(刺激物)such as pollen(花粉)from plants gets into our nose or nasal passages(鼻腔通道),our body sneezes to get it out. If we breathe in dust, our body coughs to remove it from our lungs(肺)or windpipe. We blink in order to keep our eyes clean and moist(濕潤(rùn))and to prevent dust and other things from staying on them. A yawn is our body's way of making us put more oxygen into our bloodstream.
. These involuntary movements happen because our brain is giving out signals. There is a system of nerves(神經(jīng))called the central nervous system, that covers our entire body: from the brain, down the spinal cord(脊髓)inside our spinal column (the bones that do down our back,to the tips of our fingers and toes. When our body parts sense certain things, like a mosquito蚊子)bite, a message is sent to our brain. Then the brain sends a message back to itch(發(fā)癢).
Without these reflex actions, we would not live very long.
【1】What is the passage mainly about?
A.We would not live long without movements.B.Why our body does involuntary movements.
C.We sneeze to get out an irritant such as pollen.D.How our brain is giving out signals to our nerves.
【2】If dust comes into our eyes, we will________ to protect our body.
A.coughB.sneezeC.blinkD.yawn
【3】Which of the following sentences can be put at the beginning of Paragraph 3?
A.What tells our body to take care of us the way it does?
B.Don't you think it is interesting for our body to do so?
C.What can we do when involuntary movements happen?
D.How can we avoid stimulus to protect our own body?

【題目】 If you give money to a stranger on the street, does that make you a nice person? Do you always offer to help someone struggling with heavy bags? Do you often donate blood?
You may consider yourself to be a nice person, but you're probably not as nice as you think.
This is a new study carried out by professors from the University of London. The study looked into whether there is a connection between nice people and their levels of health, wealth and happiness. During the study, participants(參與者)were given a list of "nice" activities and asked which ones they often do. The result was surprising-98 percent of us consider ourselves to be among the nicest 50 percent of the population.
"In most cases, people think of themselves as nice, but it is not as simple as that," study leader Jonathan Freeman told.
The most common practices were giving directions to strangers, holding doors open and giving up seats on public transport. However, 3/4 said that they rarely helped people carry heavy shopping bags, and only 1/6 often gave money to strangers. Just 1/4 donated blood often or helped someone cross the road.
Though our thoughts of ourselves didn't match up with scientific research, this nicer than-others thought, according to Freeman, may actually do good to us. In the study led by Freeman, those who thought themselves as "nice" were likely(可能的)to be richer, healthier and happier. "Nice" people are almost three times more satisfied with their lives and make more money compared to the "not very nice" participants.
"Our study shows that participants who report that they are 'nice' scored higher on emotional intelligence(情商), and it can help them deal better with stress and troubles in their lives," Freeman told The Independent.
【1】What does the article mainly talk about?
A."Not very nice people" must be unhappier.
B.Nice people must be richer and happier.
C.Nice people may be happier than the "not very nice".
D.The "not very nice" may be wealthier than nice people.
【2】What's the main idea for Paragraphs 3, 4 and 5?
A.People are probably as nice as they think.
B.A new study about nice activities was carried out.
C.Most people consider themselves to be nicer than others.
D.People's thoughts of themselves didn't match up with scientific research.
【3】According to the study, which of the following is WRONG with the participants?
A.Most of them always thought of themselves nice.
B.Only one in seven often gave money to strangers.
C.They sometimes offer to help someone struggling with heavy bags.
D.Just a quarter donated blood often or helped someone cross the road.
【4】What does the underlined word "it" in the last paragraph refer to(指的是)?
A.The study.B.The stress.
C.Being nicer to others.D.Having higher emotional intelligence.
