An old man was fishing in the bank of a river. A girl came to see him fishing. The old man was really good at fishing and it didn't take long for him to catch a full basket of fish. The old man saw that the girl was very cute, and he wanted to give her a whole basket of fish. But the girl shook her head. The old man was surprised and asked "Why don't you want the fish?"
The girl replied, "I want the fishing rod(竿)in your hands.”
The old man asked, "Why do you want the rod?"
"It doesn't take long to eat all the fish in a basket. But if I have the fishing rod, I can go fishing by myself and I won't be afraid of not having any more fish to eat."
I think you will certainly say that the girl is very smart. Wrong! If she doesn't know how to fish, she can not have fish to eat, even though she has the fishing rod. It's useless to only have a fishing rod. Fishing skills are the most important, not the fishing rod.
Too many people think that if they have a "fishing rod" in their life, they will no longer fear the wind and rain. They are just like the girl, who thought that if she had a fishing rod, she would have fish to eat.

3.The writer thought the girl was after she explained why she didn't want the fish.
A. smart B. hard-working C. silly D. lazy
4.What is the best title for the article?
A. The Fish. B. The Fishing Man. C. The Fishing Girl. D. Learn to Fish.

Fashion treadmill desks (跑步機(jī)辦公室) might actually help improve job performance after employees get used to working while walking, according to new research.
A yearlong study of workers at a company St. Paul, Minn, found that the productivity of 40 treadmill users dropped at first because they were unable to master typing and operating a mouse while walking at a speed of up to two miles per hour.
But within four to six months, measures (測量) of performance-quality, the amount of work done, and the quality of interactions(互動(dòng)) with workmates rose gradually, according to weekly surveys. At the end of the survey period, workers with treadmill desks improved their performance, which was 0.69 points higher than that before the project began.
For tasks like solving problems or taking conference calls, “ A little bit of walking is useful because it means there’s more blood flow to the brain,” said Avner Ben-Ner, a professor at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management and an author of the study. “ You get more oxygen (氧氣) and it increases the ability to think .”
Treadmill desks have got attention because of research which showed the negative (負(fù)面的,消極的)effects of sedentary lifestyles and jobs that leave workers sitting all day. But data on the effectiveness of the desks has been relatively rare.
There are other downsides (不利方面) , as The Wall Street Journal wrote last year, including the possibility of falls and injuries.
Mr. Ben-Ner noted that treadmill users need some time to get used to the ergonomics (人體工程學(xué)) of walking while working, including the proper desk height. His team provided no training to employees, and he said that employers who provide such desks should offer help to get users comfortable on the machines.
“This wouldn’t be very good for people who use a needle for their jobs,” he said. “ But everyone who does brain work knows that if you need fresh ideas, taking a walk helps.”
1.According to the passage, fashion treadmill desks offer users many advantages EXCEPT to_______.
A. improve their quality of work B. increase their amount of work
C. make their health become better and better D. keep good relationships with workmates
2.Which of the following does Mr. Ben-Ner agree?
A. People can do different kinds of work when walking on treadmill.
B. The treadmill desks are fit for people solving difficult problems.
C. The more oxygen you get, the better your mood is.
D. A little walk can make your brain work more actively.
3.The underlined part “sedentary “in Paragraph 6 probably means leading a life with ____________.

She had been shopping with her Mom in Wal-Mart. She must have been 6 years old, beautiful and innocent*. Outside, it was pouring so heavily.
We all stood there just inside the door of the Wal-Mart. We waited, some patiently, others annoyed because nature messed up their hurried day. I got lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world.
Her voice was so sweet that it woke me up.
“Mom, let’s run through the rain,” she said.
“No, honey. We’ll wait until it slows down a bit,” Mom replied.
Waiting about another minute, the young child repeated: “Mom, let’s run through the rain. ”
“We’ll get soaked if we do,” Mom said.
“No, we won’t, Mom. That’s not what you said this morning,” the young girl said, pulling her Mom’s arm.
“This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?”
“Don’t you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer*, you said if God can get us through this, he can get us through anything!”
All the people stopped dead silent. You couldn’t hear anything but the rain. No one came or left in the next few minutes. Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say.
Now some would laugh it off or tell her not to be silly. Some might even pay attention to what was said. But this was a moment in a young child’s lifetime that some innocent trust may bloom into faith. “ Honey, you are right. Let’s run through the rain. If get wet, well, maybe we just need washing, ” Mom said. Then off they ran.
We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they rushed past the cars and they held their shopping bags over their heads just in case. They got soaked. But they were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars. And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed washing.
You may lose what you have, your money and even your health, but no one can ever take away your valuable memories. So don’t forget to make time and take the chance to make memories.
