They can often afford the clothes there. The first modern charity shop was opened by UK Oxfam in 1948 and is still in business. In total, the UK has more than 10,200 charity shops.

Another way is for famous people to hold concerts. They can usually raise much money for charity. For example, the Irish singer Bob Geldof and Scottish musician Midge Ure organized the Live 8 concerts in 2005. The theme was poverty in Africa. There were 10concerts in different cities at the same time. Over 1,000 musicians performed to ask people to give their names if they donate money, which they made into a “Live 8 list”.

In China, there are many charity organizations as well. For example, the Red Cross of China helps people during disasters. The Love Without Boundaries (邊界) helps China’s orphans (孤兒).
