【題目】

Once a king got two nice falcons(獵鷹) from his son. He had never seen such beautiful falcons before. He loved them so much and he ordered the best falconer to train them to fly.

After several months, the king came to see how the training was going. He found that one falcon had already been able to fly high in the sky, while the other was staying on the branch(樹枝) of a tree quietly, just keeping still.

The king called all his falconers together and ordered them to try every way they could to make the other falcon fly. But none of them succeeded. One day, while the king was taking a walk in the forest, an idea came to his mind. Maybe someone who knew the natural environment well could solve this problem. He sent for a farmer who lived in the forest into his palace to train it at once.

The next mornings, the king saw the other falcon flying above in the sky freely. “It is unbelievable!” shouted the king. “How could you make it happen?”

The farmer replied, “It’s very easy. I just cut off the branch where the falcon rested.”

It is always the same to human beings. We all have “two flying wings” in our hearts as well, but we often seem not to no notice them and stay where we are just for safety and comfort. We won’t realize we can fly so high and freely until the “branch” we are resting on breaks.

Smoking in indoor public places including public working places, public transport vehicles(車輛)and some other special outdoor working places has been banned(禁止)in China since January 2011.Let’s look at the following advantages of banning smoking.

First, banning smoking will not only help in saving smokers from health problems and diseases, but will also be good for passive(被動)smokers. When the smoker is smoking in a restaurant, the people around him are sure to breathe(呼吸) in the smoke and suffer from(受苦,患病) the diseases an active smoker gets. If smoking is banned, spread of these diseases can be controlled(控制).

Next, banning smoking will put stress on smokers to give up. Since a smoker is prevented from smoking, he will learn how to live without smoking for long hours. When a smoker doesn’t smell or see anybody around him smoking, it might reduce his wish to smoke too. As a result, people have to give up smoking.

Smoking in public places influences non-smokers to start smoking, especially adolescents. When teens see people around them smoking, they will follow them easily. Thus the number of teen smokers will increase. Also asthma(哮喘)and other problems are often seen in children living around smokers. So if it is banned, these places will become safe for children and teenagers.

Looking from the economic point of view, smoking should be banned to increase work productivity(生產(chǎn)率).Employees(雇員)who smoke usually take breaks to smoke while working. So the number of hours they put in their work is smaller.

If you see from the environment point of view, smoking should be banned. Smoking causes air pollution. If it is banned, it will help keep the environment from getting worse.

1________ doesn’t belong to a non-smoking place

A.A fieldB.A hospitalC.A libraryD.A restaurant

2The second paragraph mainly wants to tell us ________

A.banning smoking is good for restaurants

B.banning smoking is good for non-smokers

【題目】

I’ve been playing in rock bands since I was about 14 years old. It’s my favorite hobby in the world and I don, t think I’ll ever give it up. When I moved to China, I wasn’t sure what it would be like to play in a band here. Would it be hard to find people to play with? Or places to play at? As it turns out, Beijing is a great place to play music.

One of the main differences is that the music scene here is much smaller than those in most big Western cities. This might seem like a disadvantage, but I actually kind of (有點) like it. It means that most of the people involved, whether they are promoters (宣傳人員) or musicians or Just music fans, know each other well. It’s like having a big family. I’ve met some amazing friends by playing music here.

Another big difference is that every practice studio and live-house in Beijing has the basic equipment (設(shè)備) for playing music. When I played drums in the US, I had to bring my whole drum kit everywhere we played. But here, I just bring my drumsticks and cymbals (). This makes it way more convenient to practice, record and play music.

And I’ve definitely had some unique experiences since I’ve been playing here. For one concert, we played on an outdoor stage next to a farm in the suburbs of Baoding in Hebei province. For another show, we played at a tiny bar inside of a huge shopping mall. These kinds of experiences are rare in the US. It’s definitely been a lot of fun to play music here.

1In the first paragraph the writer wasn’t sure ________?

A.whether he would miss his friends

B.whether he would bring his whole drum kit

C.whether he could continue playing music

D.whether he could start a new hobby

2From the second paragraph we know ________.

A.the music scene in Beijing is the same size as Western cities

B.people in the music scene come from a big family

C.the writer gets on well with people in Western cities

D.the writer makes some new friends by playing music

3What does the underlined word “unique” mean in the last paragraph?

A.獨特的B.危險的C.艱難的D.可怕的

4What do we know from the passage?

A.The writer has played rock music for 14 years.

B.Rock bands in Beijing are not very popular.

C.The writer enjoys playing music in China.

D.The writer once played on an outdoor stage on a farm.

【題目】 Scientists in Britain and the United States have made a new kind of enzyme(酵素) that eats plastics( ). With its help, plastics can be turned into smaller parts and go away quickly. Scientists believe that, in the future, it could solve the problem of plastic pollution.

The enzyme is able to break down PET, a form of plastic. PET was first made in the 1940s and is now widely used to make plastic bottles. It can remain in the environment for many years and pollute large areas of land and water. So it has always been a headache to deal with the waste from PET and other plastics.

The researchers made the discovery(發(fā) 現(xiàn)) while examining the structure of a natural enzyme in Japan. They found that the natural enzyme was helping to break down PET plastics. So, they decided to make small changes to the enzyme by adding some amino acids( ). It made the natural enzyme’s plastic-eating abilities work faster and better.

John McGeehan, one of the lead researchers, said, “We’ve made an improved enzyme. It’s better than the natural one. And we are trying to make more improvements to it.” He went on, “The enzyme is not harmful to humans or animals, and it is friendly to the environment. So we are considering putting it into wider use.”

The team is now trying to make the enzyme break down PET in large quantities(大量). “We’ll see that the plastic pollution may be stopped with this technology. However, there is still a long way to go,” John McGeehan added.

1Which is not true about the advantage of enzyme?

A.It’s able to make plastics become smaller parts.

B.It can solve the problem of the plastic pollution right now.

C.It’s used to make the plastics disappear in a rapid way.

2The underlined phrase “break down” in the passage probably means “________” in Chinese.

A.實驗B.生產(chǎn)C.分解

3Which isn't the change they made to the natural enzyme?

A.Some amino acids were put in it.

B.The speed of plastic-eating has been improved.

C.The quality of plastic -eating remained the same.

4Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A.The scientists are still trying to improve the enzyme.

B.The enzyme will pollute large areas of land and water.

C.The natural enzyme woks better than the improved one.

5We can’t infer from the study that________.

A.The team is able to increase the speed of the plastic -eating abilities

B.Efforts are made to increase the number of PET that the enzyme breaks down

C.Few efforts are required to the improvement of this new enzyme
