We call the Chinese New Year the Spring Festival. It usually comes in January or February. There is a name for each Chinese year. We may call it the year of the pig, the year of the monkey or the year of the horse. And this year （2020年）is the year of the rat.

Before New Year’s Day, people are busy shopping and cleaning their houses. On New Year’s Eve, there is always a big family dinner. They cook many dishes for the dinner. The dishes are all delicious. Family members eat and talk. They feel happy. After dinner, all the family stay up late to welcome the New Year. Sometimes they watch TV programs. They are very interesting.

On the first day of the New Year, people put on their new clothes and go to visit their relatives （親戚）and friends. They say “Best wishes” and some other greetings to each other. They play games and have many other things to do. People usually have a very good time during the festival.
