When I was a junior high school student in 1980, life gave me a gift — it was happiness.
One weekend, I went to visit my grandparents in the countryside. On my way home a car ran over me and cut off my arms because of its high speed.
Several days later when I woke up at the hospital, I realized I had to spend the rest of my life 1.________(without)arms. How sad I felt at that time! Even I was full of fears. But 2.________ (slow) I knew I had to face the fact and get over it. I 3.________ (can) get my arms back even though I cried every day.
However, it’s4._______ (easy) said than done. It took me nearly half a year to get out of the 5. ________ (sad) completely. I got so much from my past story. From then on, I could treat my life with6. ________ normal mind. But in our daily life, I often see my classmates get7.________ (worry) about little things: they get a bad grade on the test; their bus comes late; they don’t have a mobile phone but others have, and so on. But I only enjoy my life. I was lucky to realize from an accident: it’s a waste of our life to focus on what you have lost. We should always think of 8. ________ we have. So why are so many people unhappy? Someone may say, “My whole life would improve if I had a new car. But when you get the car, what happens? 9. ________ a whole week you are walking on air. Then you go right back to being unhappy.
Happiness 10._______ (depend) on what we have! It’s in our heart. It’s a state of mind: even though you own the whole world, you may still feel unhappy. Happiness comes from mastering the art of appreciating (感激) and taking pleasure in what you really have.

Everyone can change the world
What can we do to help protect the environment? It seems useless to just pick up a piece of trash (垃圾), but what will happen if you keep doing it every day? Tommy Kleyn, an ordinary man from the Netherlands, may give you the answer.
Tommy Kleyn walked past a polluted river on his way to work every day. It used to be a beautiful view, but the trash on the bank made it dirty and smelly. So Tommy decided to pick up the trash along the river a little bit at a time after work. “It took me about 30 minutes to fill one garbage(垃圾) bag with trash, but one garbage bag didn't seem helpful in a place as polluted as this. I decided to fill one bag of trash each day as I passed by," Tommy said. Every day, Tommy took pictures of the river and shared them on his Facebook page. To his surprise, in just six days, he had made great progress with his cleanup effort(努力). He felt happy and kept doing it. Gradually, more and more people knew about Tommy's story. Other people in the community began following in his footsteps and cleaning up trash on their way home, too.
“The idea is to encourage people to fill one garbage bag with litter each day. It only takes 30 minutes, but it really makes a difference and you will be amazed at how good you feel afterwards," he said.
People from all over the world have been moved and inspired(激發(fā)) by Tommy's story. No effort is useless if we keep doing it every day. Ordinary people like you and me can also make a difference to the world we live in if we take actions right now.
1.Did Tommy Kleyn walk past a polluted river on his way to work every day?
2.What did Tommy decide to do after work?
3.Where did Tommy share the pictures of the river that he took?
4.Who began following in Tommy’s footsteps and cleaning up trash?
5.What can you learn from the story?

Sometimes I really doubt whether there is love between my parents. Every day they are busy earning money. They don’t act in the romantic ways that I read in books or I see on TV. My father has a bad temper. When he’s tired from the hard work, it is easy for him to lose his temper.
One day, my mother was sewing a quilt (縫被子).
“Mom, may I ask you a question?” I said.
“What?” “Is there love between you and Dad?” I asked her in a very low voice.
My mother stopped her work and raised her head in surprise. She didn’t answer immediately. Then she continued to sew the quilt.
I was very worried because I thought I had hurt her. But at last I heard my mother say the following words: “Susan, look at the thread (線). Sometimes it appears, but most of it disappears in the quilt. It makes the quilt strong. If life is a quilt, then love should be a thread. It can hardly be seen, but it’s really there. Love is inside.”
I couldn’t understand her until the next spring. My dad got sick suddenly. My mum had to stay with him in the hospital for a month. When they returned, they both looked very pale. It seemed both of them had a serious illness.
After they were back, every day in the morning and dusk, my mother helped my father walk slowly on the country road. The doctor had said my father would recover in two months. But after two months he still couldn’t walk by himself. All of us were worried about him.
“Dad, how are you feeling now?” I asked.
“Susan, don’t worry about me,” he said gently. “I just like walking with your mom. I like this kind of life.” Looking at his eyes, I knew he loves my mother deeply.
Once I thought love meant flowers, gifts and sweet kisses. But now, I understand that love is just like the thread. Love is inside, making life strong and warm.

If you could see a movie of your life before you lived it, would you want to live it? Probably not. The excitement of living is that you don’t know what’s coming.
Sure, it’s hard to see uncertainty(不確定) in such active light when you’re out of work, or when you feel like you’re failing. But uncertainty is really another word for chance.
When Allison graduated from Harvard, she had chances all over the place but had no idea what she wanted to do. She took a job in consulting(咨詢), but she knew she wouldn’t stay there. She took the GRE and scored so high that she was able to increase her income(收入)by teaching students. Still, she didn’t think she wanted to go to graduate school. Allison knew she wasn’t doing what she wanted, but she didn’t know what she wanted.
She worried. All her friends were going to graduate school or starting their own businesses. She was lost and felt that she would never find anything out. After six years, Allison, by having a plan in mind, got married, moved to the Midwest, and used her consulting experience to get a great job. Allison realized that she spent her years finding her way: time well spent, and time we must all take if we’re being honest with ourselves.
The only way to lead an interesting life is to face uncertainty and make a choice. Otherwise your life is not your own—it is a path someone else has chosen. Moments of uncertainty are when you create your life, when you become who you are. Uncertainty usually begins with a job hunt, but it doesn’t end there. Every new role we take on means another round of uncertainty. Instead of fearing it, you should find some ways to deal with uncertainty.

A. being out of work is a sad thing
B. uncertainty is what makes life interesting

3.How did Allison feel about her six years’ working experience?
A. Uncertain. B. Amazed. C. Sorry. D. Satisfied.
4.What may be discussed in the following paragraph?
