One afternoon, I went to pick up my mother from work. I got there a little early, so I my car by a small park, and for her.
As I looked outside the car window, I saw a little boy, around two years old, running on the grass as his mother from a short distance. The boy had a big smile on his face as if he had just been free from some sort of prison. The boy would then fall to the grass, up, without looking back at his mother, run as as he could, again, still with a smile on his face, as if nothing had happened .
At that moment, I thought to myself, “Why aren’t most adults this way?” Most adults, when they fall down, make a big deal out of it and don’t even a second attempt. They would be so that they would not try again if someone saw them fall. Or, because they fall, they would find a good for themselves that they’re not fit for it. However, with kids, when they fall down, they don’t consider their falling down as a failure, instead, they treat it as a experience. They try again and again until they . Once upon a time all feelings went to an island for a vacation, and each was having a good time. Suddenly, a warning of a strong storm was announced ,so all rushed to their boats. Yet, Love did not wish to run away quickly. There was so much to do. But as the clouds darkened, Love realized it was time to leave. But there were no boats to spare. Love looked around with hope.

A famous study was done in a school by a professor from a university. At the start of the school year, the teachers were given the names of five children. They were told that these five were the most excellent students in the class. But the fact was that these students were only average, and they were not the best students at all. Well, guess what? At the end of the year, all the five average students scored among the highest in the class.
What made these average students change so much to become top students? The only difference was the change in their teachers’ attitude. Because the teachers believed that these five kids were the top students, they expected more from them. And so these five average students began to believe and expect more from themselves. So they worked harder to do as well as they could.
Do you know why? If you expect the best from people, they’ll usually want to give you their best. A great leader said, “Treat a person just how he appears to be on the outside, and you’ll make him even worse. But treat a person like he’s already a success, and you’ll help make him the best he can be.”
Like the true story of 7-year-old Johnny, his teacher got so angry with him that one day she said,“Johnny, you’re the naughtiest boy in this class. I’m sure you’ll never change.” The next year Johnny had a new teacher. And on the first day of class, she met with Johnny after school and said,“Johnny, I’ve heard a lot about you! But do you know that I don’t believe a word of it.” And every day after that, this new teacher treated Johnny as if he was one of the smartest students even when Johnny did naughty things. Later on, Johnny became a school leader. Because that’s the power of our belief and attitude toward children.
【小題1】The professor started his research by _______.
A.teaching the five children himself |
B.a(chǎn)sking the five children to find a new teacher |
C.telling the five students to work harder than ever before |
D.telling the teacher the five students were the best in the class |
A.the professor’s study | B.the teachers’hard work |
C.the change in the teachers | D.the change in the teachers’ attitude |
A.Attitude and belief can change a person. |
B.Only teachers can make you a top student. |
C.A professor’s study can help you score highest. |
D.If you want to get more, you should have new teachers. |

Once I thought love meant flowers, gifts and sweet kisses. So, I really doubted whether there was any love between my parents. Every day they were working hard to pay for my high school. They didn’t act in the romantic ways that I read in books and saw on TV, and they certainly didn’t send flowers to each other on Valentine’s Day (情人節(jié)).
One day, my mother was sewing a quilt (被子). I asked her if there was any love between her and my dad. She stopped and raised her head in surprise. Then she went on with her work without saying anything. I was very worried because I thought I had hurt her feelings. But after a few minutes she said, “Look at this thread (線). Sometimes it appears, but most of the time it disappears in the quilt. If life is a quilt, then love is the thread. It can hardly be seen anywhere or at any time, but it’s really there, and makes the quilt long-lasting.” I listened carefully but I didn’t understand her until the next spring.
My mother suddenly got seriously ill and had to stay in hospital for about a month. Every morning and evening after she returned from the hospital, my father helped her walk slowly along our country road. There were many beautiful flowers, green grass and trees, and the sun gently shone through the leaves. All of this made the most beautiful picture in the world. Reading their eyes, I knew they love each other deeply. From this experience, I realized that love is just a thread in the quilt of our lives. Love is inside, making life strong and warm.

A.There is beautiful scenery where the writer lived. |

A.Because her husband didn’t love her. |

My dad used to say he knew I would be a singer. When I was a baby, I was always singing loudly. Dad was a big sports fan, but he was happy I loved music.
After dinner, Dad would often ask me to sing. He always said I sang I Will Always Love You much better than Whitney Houston!
