【題目】Have you ever heard of Stonehenge( 巨石陣 )? These ancient huge stones have been standing on the Salisbury Plains(索爾茲伯平原 ) in England for thousands of years. Who build Stonehenge? Some people said that the ancient Greeks built it. Some people said that it was a site where UFO landed. It’s still a mystery.

However, it is clear that the first stones arrived at Stonehenge around the same time as the ancient Egyptians were building the pyramids. These stones can only be found in South Wales, nearly 150 miles away. It was a huge job to move these stones far from Wales because originally there were about 80 of them here at Stonehenge. And each of the stone weighs about forty tons. To move one of these forty-ton stones, we need at least 150 people.

However, building Stonehenge was much more difficult. It is not just simply one stone piled on to top of another, they’re joined together.

Though many of the stones have fallen, Stonehenge still attracts nearly five thousand tourists every day. And after nearly 5000 years Stonehenge is still standing. It is sure that Stonehenge has something to do with the summer and winter solstices (夏至日/冬至日). Nature may well know all the answers, but science has yet to prove its theories. It seems Stonehenge isn’t ready to tell all its secrets yet.

1How did ancient people move these huge stones to the plain?

A. By air. B. By ship. C. By labor D. Unknown

2Which of the following statement is true?

A. The scientists have already solved all the problems about Stonehenge.

B. It is easier to build Stonehenge than to transport there huge stones.

C. Some aliens build Stonehenge as a site to land their UFO.

D. Stonehenge showed the summer and winter solstices to ancient people.

3Which is the best title for the passage?

A. An Egyptian Mystery. B. The Building of Stonehenge.

C. Answer of Nature. D. Stonehenge—An Ancient Secret.

【解析】試題巨車陣這些古老的巨石一直屹立在英國的索爾茲伯里平原,是誰建造了巨車陣?怎樣建造的?這仍然是個謎。

1根據(jù)第二段以及It was a huge job to move these stones far from Wales because originally there were about 80 of them here at Stonehenge.可知,把這些石頭移離威爾士是一項巨大的工作,但是并沒有說明如何搬動的。故選:D。

2根據(jù)最后一段第三句It is sure that Stonehenge has something to do with the summer and winter solstices (夏至日/冬至日)可知,“Stonehenge showed the summer and winter solstices to ancient people巨石陣向古代人們展示了夏至和冬至這是正確的。故選:D。

3本文主要介紹了一直屹立在英國的索爾茲伯里平原巨石陣,它是誰建造的,以及如何建造的,到如今仍是個謎。所以Stonehenge—An Ancient Secret最符合本文主旨大意。故選:D。

【題目】閱讀短文,根據(jù)短文內容回答問題。

Idioms are one of the hardest parts of learning a language. An idiom is a phrase which has a meaning, but the meaning is not clear from the words themselves. They are like puzzles. If you translate an idiom word for word, it sometimes makes no sense at all. That’s why even native speakers can get confused when someone uses a phrase that they’ve never heard of.

Here are four common English idioms every English student should know in a lot of situations.

1.Get your act together (Meaning: you need to improve your behaviour/work)

This might be something your teacher says to you if you score badly in an exam or if you misbehave in class. You can also use it to talk about people in general. For example, if your friend is being mean for no reason, then you can tell them that they need to get their act together.

2.Pull yourself together (Meaning: calm down)

It’s not polite to say “pull yourself together”to tell people to relax while they’re overreacting (反應過激). Only use this if you think the person you are speaking to is getting upset over something important. When your friend tells you that their close relative has died, it is NOT the time to tell them to pull themselves together.

3.I’m feeling under the weather (Meaning: I’m sick)

Yes, it’s longer and more difficult to say than “I’m sick”, but if your English teacher asks you why you haven’t done your homework, he or she is more likely to forgive (原諒) you if you say that you were feeling under the weather.

4.Break a leg (Meaning: good luck!)

This is perhaps one of the most confusing yet well-known English idioms. If someone says this to you, do not think they are frightening you; they are just wishing you luck. It is most often used for people wishing success to actors and actresses before they perform on the stage, but it can be said in other situations, too.

All in all, learning a new language can be challenging. It’s certainly not a piece of cake, especially when there are so many confusing idioms. However, with enough hard work and interest, you will succeed in no time. Break a leg!

1What is an idiom?

2How many common English idioms are talked about in the passage?

3Is it polite to say“pull yourself together”to tell people to relax while they’re overreacting?

4Which idiom can you use to wish somebody luck?

5What is the passage mainly about?

【題目】Bats are the only mammals that can fly a great distance, but they have another ability. Many bats live a very long time for an animal their size.

European researchers are studying bats to understand why they live so long. They hope to make discoveries to fight the aging process (過程) in human beings.

Last week, the group of scientists said they had found important biological qualities in some bat species. The group studied bat chromosomes ( ), a line of genes found in the nucleus() ofcells. The scientists were most interested in parts connected to the ends of the chromosomes. They are called telomeres( ). Telomeres protect the ends of chromosomes, which shorten each time a cell divides. Scientists believe this shortening process causes cells to break down. .

A report on bats was published this month in the journal Science Advances.

Among the leaders of the study was Emma Teeling, a biologist with University College Dublin in Ireland. Teeling said studying long-living mammals that have developed ways to fight aging “is another way to prove the molecular( ) basis of extended ‘health length.’” She added that studying bats made scientists able to learn more about the processes “that drive healthy aging.”

The European researchers studied 493 bats from four bat species. The group used information that had been gathered over more than 60 years. Of these animals, the greater mouse-eared bat generally lived the longest, an average of 37 years.

The scientists said this and a related species, which are grouped together under the name Myotis, had telomeres that did not shorten with age. Another Myotis bat holds the record for oldest age, reaching 41 years.

The scientists’ findings suggest that these bats’ cells have the ability to keep and repair their telomeres. This, they said, helps guard against the aging process. Based on its body size, a bat like the greater mouse-eared bat would be expected to live four years. But, these mammals have been found to live nearly 10 times longer than that.

The scientists found that Eighteen of these are bats. The only exception is an unusual African rodent, the naked mole rat.

1Which sentence can be put at the end of Paragraph 3?

A. This makes scientists able to study bats.

B. That’s why bats can fly a great distance.

C. They say this is what causes aging.

D. They discover the cells connected to humans.

2Why do some species of bats live a very long time?

A. Because they have a line of long-living genes out of the cells.

B. Because their cells have the ability to keep and repair their telomeres.

C. Because they have another ability to live longer without any food or water.

D. Because telomeres protect the ends of chromosomes to stop cells dividing.

3The underlined word “that” refers to .

A. four years B. body size C. the aging process D. the ability to repair

4What’s the best title of the passage?

A. Differences Between Long-Living Animals

B. A Science Report on Chromosomes

C. Do Bats Hold the Secret to Long Life?

D. Are Humans and Bats Similar in Protecting Themselves?
