【題目】Answer the questions(根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答下列問題)

Everyone has good days and bad days.

Sometimes, you may feel that you're on top of the world and all the questions on your maths test might seem easy. But sometimes you feel frightened or you lose things, and you cannot focus on your school work.

For more than 20 years, scientists have suggested that high self-esteem(自尊)is the key to success. They said that kids who feel good about themselves do better in school and have fewer emotional problems than kids who have a low opinion of themselves.

Now, new research shows that focusing just on building self-esteem may not be helpful. In some cases, having high self-esteem can bring bad results if it makes you less likeable(可愛的)or more upset when you fail at something.

"Forget about self-esteem," says Jennifer Crocker, a psychologist at the University of Michigan, US. "It's not the important thing. " Crockery's advice may sound a bit strange because it is good to feel good about oneself. Studies show that people with high self-esteem are less likely to be sad, anxious, shy, or lonely than those with low self-esteem.

But, after reviewing about 18,000 studies on self-esteem, Roy Baumeister, a psychologist at Florid a State University, has found that building up your self-esteem will not necessarily make you a better person. People with high self-esteem tend to think more of themselves while people with low self-esteem are more likely to rely on their friends when they need help.

Researchers say it is best to listen to and support other people. Set out to create or build something. If you fail at something, try to learn from the experience. "The best therapy(藥方)is to know your own weak points," Vohs says. "It's OK to say, 'I'm not so good at that,' and then move on. "

1According to scientists, what is the key to success?

2Do kids who have a low opinion of themselves have more emotional problems?

3When can high self-esteem bring us bad results?

4What's C rocker's advice on self-esteem?

5What will people with low self-esteem do when they need help?

6How do you like "If you fail at something, try to learn from the experience"? Why?

【題目】 Jane Eyre(簡愛)tells the story of a good and independent woman, who does not depend on others and does not give up even facing many difficulties. Jane is poor and an orphan(孤兒)and is treated badly by her rich aunt and cousins. She is sent away to a school where the pupils are treated very badly. Jane remains strong, because she knows she is good. And when she had the chance to run away, she does. Jane takes a job in the house of a rich man called Mr Rochester.

Jane falls in love with Mr Rochester who is twenty years older than her. Jane is sad when Rochester brings a beautiful woman Blanche to his house. Jane thinks Rochester will marry Blanche. So she decides to leave. Rochester asks her to stay but she will not. She tells him she loves him and says that she is poor and not beautiful, but it does not mean that she has no feelings. She speaks to Rochester as a ‘spiritual equal’.

Rochester asks Jane to marry him and she agrees, but on the day of the wedding she finds out that Rochester is already married. Jane decides to leave and even though Rochester says his wife is mad and begs Jane to stay, she cannot. Jane will not stay with a man who is already married. She has no family to protect her and no money, but she is proud and she wants to do the right thing.

【題目】Dear Victor:

I am a college student. Nowadays games on the net are very popular with college students. Some of my roommates are very interested in them. They not only play games in their free time, but also keep talking about them at night when lights are off, and they regard games as part of life. I’ve begged(乞求) them to give it up, but they wouldn’t listen to me. It has become a rather big problem. Should I report it to our teachers or do something else?

Ted

Dear Ted:

Drop it. Your roommates, as grown-ups, can do whatever they want with their time so long as it doesn’t break school rules or violate(防礙) other people’s interests. Playing perhaps gives these students relaxation(放松) from hard study. If they play too often, have little time to study, and they will reap what they have sown, but you will not. Reporting to the teachers would only harm your good name in your dormitory(宿舍). However you have rights to ask your roommates to be quiet when you need sleep. If they aren’t angry with you, they will stop talking. But be polite and friendly. Perhaps, in return, join them in a game or two.

1According to the first letter, many college students enjoy__________.

A.playing computer gamesB.searching information on the Internet

C.sending e-mailsD.buying things online

2Ted wants his roommates to___________.

A.break their computersB.sell their computers to teachers

C.stop playing computer gamesD.play games in the day, not at night

3According to the second letter, some college students____________.

A.can violate school rules or other people’s interests

B.have their rights to quarrel with Ted

C.can relax themselves while playing games on the net

D.can study even better if they play games on the net

4Victor asks Ted to__________.

A.report to the teachersB.harm his good name in the dormitory

C.quarrel with his roommatesD.learn how to get on well with others

5In the second letter, the underlined part(劃線部分) means__________.

A.自食其果B.隨心所欲地做事C.回家種莊稼D.逃避責(zé)任
