Yesterday,I overheard our 9-year-old son,Aaron,talking to his friend,Zach.

“Oh,God!”Zach began, looking in Aaron’s closet “Where are all your toys?”

“Oh,we are doing something called Simplicity plan,so I basically got rid of 80% of my stuff(物品). ”

“What? Did your mom and dad make you do this?”

“No, Idecided to do it because I wanted to.When I give away a lot of my things,I make room for family activities. I did it because I wanted to live differently and have less stuff in my life.”

“But still, why would you choose to get rid of most of your toys?”

“Part of the reason is that my parents were doing it with their stuff .And my mom talked to me about it and explained how they felt happier afterwards. And I thought maybe I really had spent a lot of my time in my room playing with toys instead of spending time with my parents and sister.”

“Seriously?”

“I feel proud because I am a person who has just what I need and not more. And I’m starting

new activities like writing how I feel, reading more, and spending more time doing housework around the house.”

“OK.Let me get this. You have fewer toys, more housework, and you feel happier?”

“Well, it’s not that the housework is fun ,But I do it with my parents. We talk and connect while we are doing it, so that is the fun.And we’ve been doing more activities together, like reading aloud at night. And on weekends,we have conversations(交談)or go out together, instead of my dad being at his computer,my mom cleaning and me playing with my toys.”

Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs Passed Away

Steve Jobs, the founder and former CEO of Apple, died on October 5 at the age of 56. Jobs had been fighting with cancer since 2004. In August 2011, he quit as CEO.

When asked what Steve Jobs is best remembered for, many of us would name a particular product: the iPod, the iPhone or the iPad, for example. But in the eyes of Eric Jackson, a reporter with Forbes magazine, Jobs brought much more to the world than these popular devices. Some of the lessons he taught us were equally inspiring.

Jobs taught us how to face failure. He was fired by the successor(繼任者)he himself chose. Despite this, Jobs didn't hide away. He picked himself up and continued to follow his passion.

Another valuable lesson he taught us was to listen to that voice in the back of your head — the voice that tells you if you’re on the right track or not. Most of us simply decide that we’re going to work in finance or become a doctor because our parents tell us this is what we should do. But Jobs believed and showed that it is wise to listen to that voice in your head, whatever it is telling you to do.”Steve was among the greatest American innovators— brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.” Said the US President Barack Obama.

We can choose failure, but we can’t choose fear. That’s like what James Cameron said “Failure Is an Option, but Fear Is Not” at the end of his TED talk and I love it. We shouldn’t be afraid of facing failure, try to accept it and learn from it.

Make room for failure

Nobody wants to fail, but failure is often on your way to success. Geprge Bernard Shaw said, “A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable(可敬的), but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.” So if you never fail then it probably means that you do nothing. Failure shows that you actually do something instead of just sitting in your comfortable seat.

Learn from each failure

Don’t just fail and get nothing out of it. Learn something from each failure that makes you better and better.

Fail fast

Time is precious, so if you failed then you’d better fail fast. Why? Because it will make you learn and improve faster. Don’t wait until everything is perfect. Instead, test your idea in the real world as soon as possible.

Don’t choose fear

Many people don’t want to work on something unknown. But fear is not a good choice, so you should be willing to try out your new ideas. Even if you aren’t successful, you will still come out better than before.

B. fail every time

C. test our new ideas

A.寶貴的 B.公正的 C.智慧的

5.What is the best title for the passage?

A. Failure is an option, but Fear is not.

B. Make room for failure

C. Fail fast as soon as possible.
