Suppose you're in a rush, feeling tired, not paying attention to your screen, and you send an email that could get you in trouble.

In seconds after you've clicked "send", you realize it in horrors and burn with shame.

Here are four common email accidents, and how to make it right.

Clicking "send" too soon

Don't waste your time trying to find out if the receivers has read it yet. Write another email as quickly as you can and send it with a brief title explaining that this is the correct version(版本)

Writing the wrong name

The sooner you notice, the better. Act quickly and briefly, saying sorry for your mistake. Don't take it too lightly, as you may offend(冒犯)people, especially if your mistake suggests a misunderstanding of their culture(i. e. incorrect ordering of Chinese names).

Clicking "reply all" by accident

You accidentally let the whole company know what menu choices you would prefer at the staff Christmas dinner, or what holiday you'd like to take. In this instance, the best way is to send a quick, light—hearted apology(道歉). But it can quickly rise to something worse, when everyone starts hitting "reply all" to join in a long and unpleasant conversation. In this case, step away from your keyboard to allow everyone to calm down.

Sending an offensive message to its subject

The most awkward email mistake is usually committed in anger(憤怒). You write an unkind message about someone, planning to send it to a friend, but accidentally send it to the person you're discussing. In that case, ask to speak in person as soon as possible and say sorry. Explain your frustrations(沮喪)calmly and smartly—see it as a chance to clear up any difficulties you may have with this person.

1.If you have written the wrong name in an email, it is best to ________.

A.say sorry in a serious manner B.tell the receiver to forget it

C.learn to write the name correctly D.send a short notice to everyone

2.What should you do when an unpleasant conversation is started by your "reply all" email?

A.Try offering other choices. B.Avoid further discussion.

C.Meet other staff members. D.Make a light—hearted apology.

3.How should you solve the problem caused by an offensive email?

A.By promising not to offend the receiver again.

B.By turning to the receiver's friends for support.

C.By asking the receiver to control his anger.

D.By talking to the receiver face to face.

4.What is the passage mainly about?

A.Describing email mistakes. B.Reducing email mistakes.

C.Dealing with email accidents. D.Improving email writing.

Have you ever noticed the black and white bars on a book?Do you know what they are used for?

They are bar-codes(條形碼)used in most products. If you go to a supermarket, you can see almost every product with a bar-code on it. Bar-codes have information about the product, such as name and production date. It's an easy and convenient way to know about the products. Just scan the bar-code and everything is clear.

The first use of a bar-code in a supermarket checkout system was on a pack of American Wrigley Company chewing gum in 1974.Beyond supermarkets, bar-codes are needed everywhere:for renting cars, for luggage checks on a plane, for parcels(包裹) you send. Life would be rather difficult without bar-codes.Most of our things would get lost in the post.

Bar-codes change as well.Bar-codes in the past were 1-D(one-dimensional空間), but now there are 2-D bar-codes,such as QR code.Since 2009, QR has been used on Chinese train tickets. People can enter stadiums, cinemas and theaters by holding certain types of bar-codes.

With these small codes, life is getting much easier for us.

If you find these bar-code things boring, a bar-code building might be more up your street. Do you remember where you were when you heard the news about the traffic accident of a close friend? The answer is probably yes. Do you remember what you were doing on your birthday that year? You may have to think a little harder.

People remember bad memories more easily and in greater detail(細(xì)節(jié)) than good ones. Why is that? A new study finds that people do this because of evolutionary(進(jìn)化的) reasons.

Elizabeth Kensinger and his partners in Boston College, US, did a study looking at this. They found negative feelings like fear and sadness caused(導(dǎo)致) an increase(增長(zhǎng)) in brain(大腦) activity. This activity happens in the part of the brain that controls(控制) memories, So memories caused by negative feelings are kept in greater detail than happy or other kinds of memories.

For example, after seeing a man on a street holding a knife, people remember the knife clearly, but they forget the details of the street.

According to Kensinger, it is easy to understand this in an evolutionary(進(jìn)化論的) point of view. He said that people paid attention(注意) to dangerous information so they could use that information to guide their actions and save their lives. They could also use it to plan for similar events in the future.

The scientists say more studies are needed on how we remember bad memories. This line of research will help solve the problem of stress(壓力) disorder(失調(diào)).

A.she will have the problem of stress disorder B.she can control her memories well

C.She will have a happy memory. D.her brain activity will increase

When I was young, after church on Sundays, we would always have a delicious Italian dinner at my grandmother’s house. My grandmother’s slow-cooked sauce(醬) was the key. We would all eat, talk and laugh until our stomachs were full. After mum and grandfather passed away, my dad would still make the sauce from time to time and invite me and my brother over to his little house for a dinner full of fine food and happy memories.
