People make many different kinds of homes around the world. Weather tells us what kind

of homes we need to make.

In hot places such as southern China and southern USA, the weather is warm so people can be outside most of the time. But they still need to protect (保護(hù)) themselves against sun, rain and insects (昆蟲). Homes in such places need to have screens (濾網(wǎng)) on their windows and doors. They let the wind into the house, but keep out the insects.

In Canada, northern China and other cold places, homes need to keep out the cold and

keep in the heat. These homes need thick walls. If there is a lot of snow, the roofs (屋頂) need to let the snow fall off easily. These homes cannot have flat roofs. The roofs must also be very strong so that they can hold a lot of snow.

Takashi is 99 years old. He lives in Okinawa (沖繩縣) in Japan. In Okinawa people tend to live a very long time. They are seldom ill. Many people are over 100 years old—longer than most people in other parts of the country and the world. What is their secret (秘密)?

Mr. King was the owner of a large company. One day, he went into his office early in the morning to get ready to go to the airport and left for another city.

He was leaving his office when Bill, a night watchman, came in. Bill just came off work(下班). After saying "Good morning" to Mr. King, Bill told the owner about his bad dream. Last night he dreamed Mr. King's plane crashed after it took off. Mr. King was surprised to hear this. He decided to go by train.

Bill's dream came true. That morning the plane really crashed just after it took off. Later Mr. King returned to his office and heard the accident.
