Have you ever rubbed your hands together when they get cold? Why do we do that? We do that for friction. Friction happens when two things that aren't very smooth rub together to make heat energy. The faster you rub two things together, the more friction (and heat) you can make. Let's discover friction!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

● Soap ● Water ● Your hands!

WHAT TO DO:

①M(fèi)ake sure your hands are dirty.

②Rub your hands together until you feel the heat of your hands.

③Now, use soap and water to get your hands very slippery(滑的).

④Try to make friction happen while your hands are slippery.

⑤Please write down what has happened.

LET'S TALK!

Friction is an energy that happens when two things tub together. When friction happens, it makes heat! When your hands are slippery, they won't make very much friction and your hands won't get so hot.

DID YOU KNOW?

● Friction happens when you stop your fast running bike.

● Ancient people made fires by rubbing two pieces of wood together. Friction happened though they didn't know it.

Friction is everywhere. Have you ever noticed situations where friction is happening? If not, ask your parents to take you out in a car. If it is not hot, touch the tires(輪胎) of the car before and after a short drive to see how much warmer they get from friction.

根據(jù)Make sure your hands are dirty.Rub your hands together until you feel the heat of your hands.”

根據(jù)“Friction happens when two things that aren't very smooth rub together to make heat energy.” 故選A

根據(jù)“When your hands are slippery, they won't make very much friction and your hands won't get so hot.”可知,摩擦手會產(chǎn)生摩擦力;根據(jù)“Friction happens when you stop your fast running bike.”可知,騎自行車會產(chǎn)生摩擦力;根據(jù)“If it is not hot, touch the tires(輪胎) of the car before and after a short drive to see how much warmer they get from friction.”

根據(jù)“If not, ask your parents to take you out in a car”, 可推知最后一個(gè)欄目是:和父母合作,故選D

例如小題2,根據(jù)Make sure your hands are dirty.Rub your hands together until you feel the heat of your hands.”

How do you feel when your teacher asks you to work on a group project with other students? Do you like to work together with others or work alone?

The Program for International Student Assessment, or PISA, carried out a survey of students' ability to work together in groups. They found that students who do well on tests by themselves are also likely to be better at working with other people.

This finding was true for many countries. Students in Japan, South Korea, Finland and Canada, where test scores are high, also did well in working together to solve problems. But this was not the case for every country. Chinese students, who tend(趨向)to have high scores as well, displayed just average collaborative(合作的)skills.

“One reason might be that Chinese parents and teachers focus too much on grades, ”said Zhao Zhongxin, former vice president of the Chinese Family Education Association.“Students have a lot of exam pressure and they view school as a place for competition.”

“However, collaborative skills are very important for preparing students for today's society, ”he added.“Luckily, more Chinese parents and teachers are realizing the importance of this and are thinking of ways to help students improve this skill.”

Another interesting finding from the PISA survey was that girls tend to be better than boys at working together. They said girls show more positive attitudes toward relationships, which means they are more willing to listen to others' opinions.

PISA also found that the classroom environment tends to influence how well students collaborate. In classes where there are a lot of activities that require communication, such as class debates, students tend to have better attitudes toward collaborating.

1Which of the following is NOT one of the survey's findings?

A.Those who do well on tests are also better at working with others.

B.Collaborative skills are more important than scores for students' futures.

C.Girls are better at working with others than boys.

D.The classroom environment can influence students' ability to work in groups.

2What can teachers do to improve their students' ability to work with others?

A.Give students high scores on every test.B.Help students to get used to exam pressure.

C.Make girls work with girls instead of boys.D.Arrange more communicative activities in class.

3What's the passage mainly about?

A.How to improve collaborative skills.

B.Who tend to cooperate in working.

C.The result of a survey on students' collaborative ability.

D.The process of a survey on students' collaborative ability.
