【題目】

The death of Steve Jobs provides a chance to take some lessons from his amazing life. Steve Jobs had a passion(激情) for education. He may be gone, but we still have a chance to learn from his courage and innovation(革新).

Making Mistakes

I think that the main reason why we can't find proper ways to improve the education system that no longer serves us well is simply fear. Fear of failure. Fear of getting it wrong. Teachers fear that innovation could endanger their jobs. Steve had the attitude we need in education right now. "Sometimes when you create something, you make mistakes. It is best to admit(承認(rèn)) them and get on with improving your other innovations." That's the kind of spirit that we need to have.

Motivation(動機(jī)) Matters

We've concentrated(專注于) so much on results that we don't always reward good motivations. But these things are very important. In our schools, we've cared so much about test results that we've lost creativity. We don't reward students for their hard work, and we punish failure. As a result, we lost imagination and found no motivation to try something that has a chance of ending in failure.

What Defines(定義) Failure?

The company that Steve Jobs started in 1985 after being forced out of Apple shows us how technology could influence educational innovation. In 1985 he started NeXT. The company was providing computers for educational purposes. NeXT wasn't really financially(經(jīng)濟(jì)上) successful. But it may have been ahead of its time. Today, we see what the technology brings into the classroom.

Changing Our Model

The company sold around 50,000 computers. But that would be missing the point. It was a NeXT cube workstation that encouraged the first web server. It helped in the development of early Internet technology. Truly, Steve Jobs has taught us that results are not the most important things in life.

1The article tells us making mistakes .

A.is always something very bad

B.will help us become better people

C.is a part of making something new

D.will keep us from reaching our dreams

2We may lose our creativity and imagination if we .

A.make a lot of mistakes

B.fail to have a right model

C.can't be financially successful

D.concentrate too much on results

3Steve Jobs might agree that .

A.a good motivation can lead to a successful result

B.we shouldn't be afraid of failure and it can lead to success

C.making money is the only way to judge success

D.having a passion is the most important thing for success

4According to the article, which word can best describe Steve Jobs' spirit?

A.Passion.B.Motivation.C.Innovation.D.Creativity.

【題目】閱讀與表達(dá)(問答式)

On 19th September 1783, Pilatre De Rozier, a scientist, sent the first hot air balloon. The passengers were three animals and the balloon stayed in the air for about 15 minutes before hitting back to the ground.

The first manned(載人的) flight was about 2 months later, with a balloon made by 2 French brothers. The balloon flew for a period of 20 minutes.

Sailing through the sky in the balloon, high above buildings and trees, you can't feel or hear the wind because you're traveling in the same direction and at the same speed as it is.

A hot air balloon has three main parts: the balloon, called an envelope; a basket, where passengers ride; and a burner system, which supplies the hot air.

Most balloon envelopes are made of strong, lightweight nylon(尼龍). They are different in size and shape, but they have to be really, really big to lift even one person. Most weigh more than an adult man.

The basket is usually made of wicker(柳條), which is strong but not too hard. It needs to bend a bit for a soft landing, just like a good jumper bends her legs instead of keeping them straight when she lands.

The hot air balloon works on the theory that hot air rises faster than cooler air. When the burner system is turned on, it makes a noisy sound, but once the balloon is flying, the burner can be turned off. The air in the envelope will then cool, and the balloon will slowly go down unless the pilot starts the burner system again.

To control a hot air balloon, a pilot adds hot air to it to go up or lets the air out to go down until he finds a wind blowing in the direction he wants to fly. But no matter which way the wind blows, the passengers have an amazing bird's-eye view of the world.

根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,完成下列小題。

1Who were the passengers on the first hot air balloon?

2Did the first manned balloon fly for 20 minutes?

3Why is the basket usually made of wicker?

4How does a pilot control the hot air balloon?

5What are the main points in this passage?
