Have you ever traveled on any of the new planes? If you have not been a passenger on one of these planes, try to imagine(想像). a plane which is more than seventy metres long and more than five stories high at the tail. Such plane costs at least twenty-five million dollars to build. It costs at least $ 6,000 to fill this giant with fuel(燃料).
Inside the giant plane looks more like a great theater than a plane. It has six kitchens, and they are all needed when the plane is full of passengers. The plane holds more than 400 passengers. Imagine that number in one plane!
Is there any danger that the plane's engines will fail? Fortunately, the planes appear to be quite safe on each plane there are twice as many engines as the plane needs. If two engines fail on the same side, the plane can easily use its other engines to land. There are also two mechanical pilots(機(jī)械領(lǐng)航員) to take change if the human pilots can not fly the plane.

Mrs. Jones gave music lessons at a school. She had a good voice and enjoyed singing, except that some of her high notes (音符) sounded like a gate that had been forgotten to oil(上油). Mrs. Jones knew that so well that she tried to practise these high notes if she was free. As she lived in a small house, she usually had to go for long walks along the country roads and practised high notes there. Every time she heard a car or a person coming along the road, she stopped and waited until she could no longer be heard before she started practising again.
One afternoon, a car came up behind her so fast that she didn't hear it until it was only a few metres from her. She was singing some of her highest and most difficult notes at that time when the car passed. The driver stopped his car in front of her suddenly, jumped out and began to look at his car carefully.
