I ran into a stranger as he passed by. uOh,Fm sorry," was my reply. He said, "It's my fault. I didn't notice you."

We were very polite, this stranger and I. We said goodbye and continued our journey. But at home,a different story is told. How we treat our loved ones, young and old? Later that day, while I was cooking the evening meal,my daughter stood beside me very still.

When I turned,I nearly knocked her down. "Move out of the way," I shouted at her. My daughter walked away, with her little heart broken. I didn't realize how cruelly (冷酷地) I had spoken.

While I lay awake in bed,God's small voice came to me and said, "When dealing with a stranger, common courtesy (禮貌) you use; but the children you love, you seem to abuse. Look on the kitchen floor, and you will find some flowers there by the door. Those are the flowers your daughter brought for you. She picked them herself, pink, yellow and blue. Your daughter stood quietly not to spoil the surprise, and you never saw the tears in her eyes. " By this time I felt very small, and my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by her bed, "Wake up,little girl, wake up," I said. "Are these the flowers you picked for me?" My daughter smiled, "I found them, out by the tree. I picked them because they are pretty like you. I knew you would like them, especially the blue."

I said, "Daughter,I am sorry for the way I acted today;I should not have shouted at you that way. " My daughter said, "Oh,Mum,that's okay. I love you anyway."

I said, "Daughter,I love you too,and I do like the flowers, especially the blue."

Chuck Wall teaches management and human relations at Bakersfield College. He walked into class one day and told his students that their homework was to perform one act of random (任意的) kindness. His students did not understand the homework and didn't know what to do,but the professor would not answer their questions. He encouraged his students to work it out for themselves.

One week later, the students entered the classroom excited to share their stories. One student told of giving away blankets to the homeless. Another reported on helping a dog to find its owner, and another student had been trying to find a long, lost friend. Students were energized (給予;舌力) by the homework assignment and wanted other people to be kind too. With the support of local businesses, the students made stickers to put on cars that invited people to do something kind for others. They sold the stickers and decided to donate the money to a center for the blind―not surprising as Professor Wall is blind.

Since then, similar kindness activities have been started in schools around the world. Many schools organize a Random Acts of Kindness Week, around November 13th,to celebrate World Kindness Day.

I want to have a hamburger."或"I want to have a coffee."

Sorry,I can't. I have another appointment."如果這樣說,那別人第二次也許不會再邀請你了。老外們一般會這樣說:"                    ."

Fighting CD Copiers

How much do you want to pay for a CD by your favourite singer Jay Chou? Five yuan for a pirated one,or more for a real one?

Wang Ye,14. said she would like the real one although the pirated one is cheaper. "A real one is worth keeping for years," said the girl from No. 1Middle School in Wuhu,Anhui. "Real CDs always sound better to me."

What Can We Do?

People want to do more to help those like Wang to get real CDs.

This week the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI,國際唱片業(yè)協(xié)會) asked many countries to act against piracy.

In many places in China, the government is checking audio and video products (產(chǎn)品) . Pirated ones are broken into pieces.

Piracy is in your daily life. Don't believe it? A study by 21st Century Teens found that more than 75 percent of juniors had listened to pirated music. They say this is because pirated products are usually much cheaper than the real ones.

Why are real CDs so expensive? When a music company makes music,it needs to pay the song writers and singers. It costs a lot of money! This makes the prices of the CDs go up. Piracy is like stealing. People who make pirated copies of CDs take away the writers1 and singers' work without paying them. They don't even ask them if they can.

So next time you'd better keep your eyes widened when you see cheap CDs,remember you're helping someone to do something wrong if you buy them.

How Do I Know What's Real? Already made up your mind to buy real ones? Well, you should get to know what real CDs look like.

A real CD has the name and trademark of the music company on the cover. The company's address, telephone number and fax number are also on it.

If you open the CD box, you'll see the singer's name and the album title. Most important of all,a real CD has a number from the IFPI on it.

But people who make pirated CDs need the real CD and disks to copy them. That's why some CDs are only five yuan, but some may sell for 150.
