聞一多先生還有另外一個方面,——作為革命家的方面。
這個方面,情況就迥乎不同,而且一反既往了。

1944年10月12日,他給了我一封信,最后一行說:“另函寄上油印物二張,代表我最近的工作之一,請傳觀!
這是為爭取民主,反對獨裁,他起稿的一張政治傳單!
在李公仆同志被害之后,警報迭起,形勢緊張,明知兇多吉少,而聞先生大無畏地在群眾大會上,大罵特務,慷慨淋漓,并指著這群敗類說:你們站出來!你們站出來!
他“說”了。說得痛快,動人心,鼓壯志,氣沖斗牛,聲震天地!
他“說”了:“我們要準備像李公仆一樣,前腳跨出大門,后腳就不準備再跨進大門。”
他“做”了,在情況緊急的生死關(guān)頭,他走到游行示威隊伍的前頭,昂首挺胸,長須飄飄。他終于以寶貴的生命,實證了他的“言”和“行”。
聞一多先生,是卓越的學者,熱情澎湃的優(yōu)秀詩人,大勇的革命烈士。
