【題目】 It’s that time of year again. People all over the world recently celebrated Halloween. Children dressed up in costumes (戲劇性的服飾)and went door-to-door for candy. We call it “trick or treating” and it’s one of the most fun parts of the holiday for kids.

But some US cities have rules about who can go trick-or-treating. For example, in the cities of Meridian, Mississippi and Bishopville, South Carolina, kids above the age of 12 cannot go trick-or-treating. Why were these rules created? Something that is just for young children. Others point out that teenagers lose interest in trick-or-treating at a certain age anyway, and would prefer to go to a party with their friends instead.

I don’t quite remember when I stopped trick-or-treating. It was probably when I was in my early to mid-teens. So I guess these laws wouldn’t have bothered(困擾)me. But then again, I’m not sure if it’s “right” to stop older kids from trick-or-treating, especially if they work hard to put together a creative costume.

And there could be some bad effects as well. Experts say that trick-or-treating has been welcomed in the US because it helped to cut down on teenage vandalism(破壞公物)in the past. If kids are busy getting candy, they won’t have time to play any tricks.

1According to the passage, which city doesn’t have rules about who can go trick-or-treating?

A.MississippiB.South CarolinaC.BishopvilleD.New York

2In the city of Meridian, kids are not allowed to go trick-or-treating.

A.under 3 years oldB.over 12 years oldC.over 6 years oldD.under 8 years old

3People support these rules for the following reasons EXCEPT that .

A.it’s silly for older teens to ask for candy door to door

B.teenagers are not interested in trick-or-treating

C.teenagers prefer to go to a party with their friends

D. Something that is just for young children.

4In the US, trick-or-treating has been welcomed because .

A.it helped to cut down on teenage vandalism

B.it helped candy companies sell more candy

C.kids spent a lot of time thinking about tricks to play

D.kids love to get candy and wear costumes

5What’s the writer’s attitude(態(tài)度)towards the new law?

A.He doesn’t care about it.

B.He thinks it is right.

C.He thinks it makes people upset.

D.He is not sure whether it is right or not.

Some people make you feel comfortable when they are around. You spend an hour with them and feel as if you have known them half your life. These people have something in common. And once we know what it is, we can try to do it ourselves.
How is it done? Here are several skills that good talkers have. If you follow the skills, they'll help people feel relaxed and make friends with them quickly.
First of all, good talkers ask questions. Almost anyone, no matter how shy he is, will answer a question. One well-known businesswoman says, "At business lunches, I always ask people what they did that morning. It's a common question, but it will get things going."From there you can move on to other matters—sometimes to really personal questions. And how he answers will let you know how far you can go.
Second, once good talkers have asked questions, they listen to the answers. This point seems clear, but it isn't.Your questions should have a point and help to tell what type of person you are talking to. And to find out, you really have to listen carefully and attentively. Real listening at least means some things. First it means not to change the subject of conversation. If someone sticks to one topic, you can take it as a fact that he's really interested in it. Real listening also means not just listening to words, but to tones of voice. If the voice sounds dull, then, it's time for you to change the subject.
Finally, good talkers know well how to deal with the moment of saying goodbye. If you're saying good-bye, you may give him a firm handshake and say, "I've really enjoyed meeting you." If you want to see that person again, don't keep it a secret. Let people know what you feel, and they may walk away feeling as if they've known you half their life.
(1)Asking questions might be a quite good and suitable way _______.
A.for you to make new friends
B.to begin your business talks
C.to get the conversation going smoothly
D.for you to impress others with your questions
(2)After having asked somebody a question, it'll be polite of you to _______.
A.make clear what kind of person he is
B.listen to his or her reply carefully
C.sit quietly without saying anything
D.go on asking him more questions
(3)Generally speaking, good talkers are persons who _______.
A.know how to change the topic properly
B.are good at making any topic interesting
C.always speak in a gentle way
D.never talk too much or too little
(4)If you really want to meet someone again, _______.
A.you may take him as your lifelong true friend
B.it seems necessary for you to let him know it
C.you are sure to have further understanding of him
D.it's proper for you to give him a second handshake

In today's world, sleep experts say that for a better night's rest, Americans should turn off their smartphones or iPad before sleeping. Such electronic products make the brain more active, and then influence their sleep. But according to a latest survey, more than 90% of Americans regularly use a computer or some other kinds of electronic products in the hour before bed.
Researchers are finding that man-made light from some electronic products at night may reduce the brain chemicals(化學(xué)物質(zhì)) that help sleep. The researchers showed that sitting in the light from computer tablets clearly lowered levels of the chemical which manages our body clocks and plays a role in the sleep cycle.
In the study, the researchers let volunteers read, play games and watch movies on a tablet for different time while measuring(測(cè)量) how much light their eyes received. They found that two hours of sitting before a bright tablet screen at night reduced the sleep chemical levels by about 22%.
Studies of students using computers at night have got the similar results. And researchers say that may not only cause sleeplessness, but also raise the risk of obesity(肥胖癥), diabetes(糖尿病) and other diseases.
To be on the safe side, the researchers advise us to use computers less before bed, or at the very least turning down your screen as much as possible.
