High-speed railways, Alipay, shared bikes and online payment are seen as the new four great achievements of China by young foreigners, according to a video survey by the Silk Road Research Institute of Beijing Foreign Studies University. In the video, young people from 20 countries along Belt and Road Routes were asked to name great achievements that had influenced their lives in China. The following is what they said from 4 young people of them.

Justin, from Bucharest, Romania

I’m from Romania. China is really a great country and its high-speed railways are very fast, convenient and tidy. It takes me only 6 hours from Beijing to Shanghai by train. It saves a lot of time and it’s cheaper than airplane. I wish we would have high-speed railways in our country someday.

Yala, from Kathmandu, Nepal

I’m from Nepa, I always go out by bike. A bicycle-sharing system allows people to borrow a bike from point “A” and return it at point “B”; It’s not only cheap but also a low-carbon and healthy way of life. I like it very much.

Archana, from New Delhi, India

My life in Beijing is quite different from that in India. Here is China, I seldom take money with me when I go out. I can pay for almost everything by Zhi Fu Bao. Oh, it’s amazing. However, in India, if you don’t take a wallet with you, you will be in a tough spot.

Bond, from Bangkok, Thailand

You can find many wonderful things that we don’t have in Thailand. We don’t have Alipay or other online payment Apps with which I can go shopping without stepping out of the doors. If only I could bring them back to my country.

1.What does Justin think of the high-speed railways in China according to his words?

A.Fast and tidy. B.Cheap and healthy.

C.Cheap and amazing. D.Convenient and wonderful.

2.What do “A” and “B” refer to in Yala’s words?

A.Two bikes. B.Two riders. C.Two shops. D.Two places.

3.What does the underlined phrase “be in a tough spot” mean?

A.Get into trouble. B.Lose your way.

C.Stay in silence. D.Get something for free.

4.Which of the following is TRUE according to the above information?

A.A bicycle-sharing system provides bikes for free.

B.There’re no high-speed railways in Romania now.

C.We can pay for everything by Zhi Fu Bao in Beijing.

D.Zhi Fu Bao is the only way of paying for things.

5.What conclusion can we draw about the new four great achievements?

A.They are only liked by young people.

B.They were created by young foreign people.

C.They are the signs that China is improving rapidly.

D.They were brought to the countries along Belt and Road Routes.

Alice Munro is the first Canadian citizen to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Munro was born into a farming family in Ontario in 1931. The family was very poor.

Munro did a lot of physical work as a young girl. She started writing stories in her teens and studied journalism and English at the University of Western Ontario. She published in many magazines starting in the 1950s. in 1968, she published Dance of the Happy Shades, a collection of short stories. In 1971, she published a collection of stories Lives of Girls and Women, and in many of the stories she talks about her poor relationship with her mother.

Since her first book in 1968, Munro has won many awards, including the 2009 Man Booker International Prize, with the 2013 Nobel Prize as her biggest honor. But Munro doesn’t see herself as a talented writer.

“I have many notebooks that include this terrible clumsy(笨拙的) writing. I often wonder, when I look at these first drafts(草稿), if it was meaningful to do this at all. I’m the opposite of a writer with quick gift.”

“Alice Munro is mostly known as a short story writer and yet she brings as much depth, wisdom and precision(精確) to every story as most novelists bring to a lifetime of novels.” The Man Booker judging committee said.

Munro became world-famous for writing about everyday people. “Here we have a world prize being won by someone who writes about housewives in Vancouver(溫哥華), booksellers in Victoria, bean farmers in Huron Country and accountants and teachers and librarians— common Canadian people, and she turns it into magic,” said Doug Gibson, Munro’s publisher.

“After many years, many collections and many wonderful stories, readers may feel they know everything about Alice Munro, especially as so many of her characters live lives similar to her own. In fact, we know very little about her. This is one of the reasons readers are crazy about Munro. This other reason is that she is so good.” said Anne Enright from Guardian.

Around the world, facial recognition(FR人臉識(shí)別)has slowly become a part of our daily life.

After helping people to make payments and open bank accounts,FR now is used in the subway of Zhengzhou,Henan Province. FR was introduced in September and now it can be used by passengers who link their online payment systems to the subway's smartphone app. China Daily reports that other cities in China, including Beijing, are testing a similar system.

It's not hard to see why. FR technology could help speed up security (安全) checks greatly. Yuan Xiaoqin,a park manager in Hangzhou, told CCTV the reason why the park upgraded (升級(jí)) its entry system,"FR can help a visitor enter the park in two or three seconds. Fingerprint information sometimes isn't sensitive (靈敏的),especially when the fingers are injured or too dry." Before, the park used a fingerprint entry system.

However, there are some problems with the use of FR. Some people are afraid that their personal information will be leaked.

In fact, sometimes people can refuse the app if they don't want their facial information disclosed (暴露),but sometimes people don't have a choice.

1.Which city is using facial recognition in the subway?

A.Zhengzhou. B.Beijing. C.Hangzhou. D.Chengdu.

2.How can a passenger use FR technology to take the subway?

A.Buying a smartphone in the subway station.

B.Opening a bank account on a smartphone.

C.Taking a photo of his face and sending it out.

D.Linking his online payment systems to the subway's smartphone app.

3.Why did the park improve the entry system?

A.Because FR technology was more fashionable.

B.Because sometimes the system didn't work well.

C.Because the system could injure visitors' fingers easily.

D.Because the manager found it hard to manage the visitors.

4.What does the underlined word "leaked" mean in Paragraph 4?

A.Secret smartphone apps are used, B.Secret information is known by others.

C.Facial recognition technology is used widely. D.Personal information is stored in the smartphone.
