Oxfam Trailwalker has been one of Hong Kong's biggest money?raising events since 1981. It is organized by Oxfam Hong Kong to raise money for helping poor people. People over eighteen can group themselves into a team of four people and join this walk.
Oxfam Trailwalker is a hard hike because you have to finish walking 100 kilometers in 48 hours. It means you may have to walk two days and nights without sleeping. The trailwalkers have to walk through eight country parks and over twenty hills and mountains.
It is a good chance for people to learn team spirit. All the team members must walk together to finish the hike because only the team's finishing time will be recorded. It is necessary for them to support and help each other. You should plan what you are going to carry during the walk. You cannot carry everything with you, so it is useful to have supports from your teammates. Warm and dry clothes are also necessary. Each team must raise at least HK$6,000.

It seems school children all over the world complain about their school food. Cherie Blair, the wife of Prime Minister Tony Blair, said that she would prepare a packed lunch for her son if school dinners do not improve. So what do students of your age eat for lunch at school?
Japan
High schools have canteens(餐廳), which serve everything from noodles to rice, but not burgers and chips. Other children bring food from home such as cold rice balls, meat or fish, pickles(泡菜) and vegetables.
Students take home a menu for the coming month including notes on nutrition value. Twice a year parents are invited to have a taste of the food. The class with the fewest leftovers(剩飯) at the end of the month receives a prize.
United States
A typical menu from an American school is made up of a hamburger with fried potatoes or roast chicken, fruit and cookies. School lunches must also provide at least one-third of the daily dietary allowances(定量) of protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, calcium, and calories.
Australia
Meat pies, sausage rolls and hot dogs are all traditional dishes in Australian school shops. But as the country pays more attention to children’s health, healthier foods have started to find their way onto school menus.
Many schools have used a traffic light system. The sale of red-labelled foods, like pastries(點心), chocolate and soft drinks, is served only twice a week. Healthier green-labelled foods such as sushi(壽司), sandwiches, corn and watermelon. In some schools, students have a choice of up to 89 foods to choose from, including popcorn and rice.
South Africa
Most of South Africa’s schools do not serve meals at all. Classes end at 1:30 p m and students get their own lunches. Many students bring food from home, usually sandwiches. Fast food and fried food sell the best among students. But as more people began to realize the fact that being too fat may cause different diseases, some schools in towns have led the way towards better nutrition. Now students at these schools are provided with porridge(麥片粥) with vegetables, such as onions, beans, carrots and tomatoes.

If you do something wrong, will your parents punish you? Some students shared their experiences.
My mom loves her garden. Anytime I did anything to make her angry, I had to work in her garden. When I told her I failed my English exam, my punishment was to build her a pond (池塘). It took me a week of work to dig it out, shape it, fill it and then plant everything around it. Then she told me that she really hated the 30-year-old tree in the garden and if my grades didn’t improve I’d remove it. —Luke |
My mom made me write letters on what I did wrong from when I was little up into high school. I hated writing them. She kept all of them, so now they’re great for a laugh. —Maria |
Once I made my mom very angry. When I got home from school, my bedroom was empty. She took everything out. I had to do chores and get everything back bit by bit. I started with my quilt and clothes, so I could sleep and go to school the next day. It took me nearly two weeks to get everything back. After that, I tried very hard not to get on her bad side too much. —Ken |
