You know how much your telephone has changed over the past 10 years? Your car will change even more than that in the next 10 years.
One of the biggest changes is that cars will drive themselves. Some day you may not need to drive a car. You will just tell the car where you want to go and it will drive itself.
Google
The American company Google has been working on a self-driving automobile for years. These cars are already on the roads in the United States, mainly in California.
Google cars are truly self-driving. These cars have no steering wheels(方向盤) or pedals(剎車踏板).
Last week, police ordered one of Google's cars to stop for driving too slowly on a public road. The car was not against any law, so no one was punished. But police did speak to the operators of the vehicle(車輛).
According to Google, its self-driving cars have been driven nearly 2 million kilometers. That is equal to the distance the average person drives in 90 years.
So far, no Google self-driving car has gotten a traffic ticket. Some of them have been in accidents when other cars hit them.
Tesla
Another American company, Tesla, added an “Autopilot(自動駕駛儀)” feature to its cars last month. Tesla put the feature, a computer software program, in cars that were built after September 2014.
With the Autopilot turned on, the vehicle drives itself. The car will speed up, slow down, brake and steer by itself.
You can take over driving any time by turning the steering wheel or touching a pedal. Your car will slow down if the vehicle in front of you gets closer. It will turn at bends and change lanes if you use the turn signal.
Tesla Autopilot takes over driving at speeds over 29 kilometers per hour when you press a button twice. Autopilot is made for cross-country driving. It keeps you in the lane and helps you avoid hitting other cars.
Other Self-Driving Cars and Buses
Other companies such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Volvo and Toyota are working on self-driving cars. Another company called BestMile is also working on self-driving buses in Switzerland. The buses can hold up to nine people and will be tested for two years.

Hi Julie,
How are you? I am Emily from Melbourne, Australia. I am excited about Christmas. What about you? Let me tell you how we celebrate Christmas.
In Australia, Christmas comes in the middle of the summer holidays. Australians hang (掛) wreaths on their front doors and decorate (裝飾) their houses and gardens with Christmas trees and lights. They also decorate their houses with Christmas Bush, a native Australian tree with small green leaves and red flowers.
Carols by Candlelight is held every year on Christmas Eve. Thousands of people meet in different cities to sing their favorite Christmas songs. You can also watch it on TV.
People eat the Christmas meal at lunch time on a beach. Most people have a cold Christmas meal, or a barbecue with seafood such as prawns and lobsters along with the traditional English food. Other families have a picnic on the beach.
When Santa Claus gets to Australia, he gives reindeer (馴鹿) a rest and uses kangaroos. At many beaches, Santa Claus arrives on a surfboard. He also changes his clothes for less hot ones.
Hope to hear from you soon.
I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Yours,
Emily

【題目】根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,選擇最佳答案。
William Shakespeare is one of the greatest writers in English literature. His plays can be divided into three categories: histories, tragedies(悲劇) and comedies. Shakespeare wrote eighteen comedies, although two were lost. These comedies usually have happy endings and a light-hearted tone and style that are quite different from his tragedies.
All of Shakespeare's comedies have five acts and the most important or exciting point always takes place in the third act. The hero does not appear until after other characters have talked about him. Shakespeare had some themes that he usually wrote about: the fight between good and bad, love's great effect on people, and the difference between first appearance and a person's true personality or face. Shakespeare also wrote his play in a certain style. For example, Shakespeare used words in such a clever and humorous way that they had more than one meaning. Some of the characters changed their appearances so that people didn't know who they were.
Even though the tone is lighter in these plays. Comedies in Shakespeare's day were quite different from modern-day comedies because their purpose was not to make people laugh. Shakespeare's comedies are very emotional(有感染力的) and often include serious topics to think about.
