There’s always something deep in our soul that never dies. I moved to the small, busy town of Edison in New Jersey six years ago. It was during the second term of my fifth grade. My parents got new jobs and higher income, so they decided it was time to move from Woodbridge to a better, more educational town.

In the US, it is unnecessary to take a test to get into a “good” middle or high school. You just attend the school close to where you live. So, many parents will think about the quality (質(zhì)量,品質(zhì)) of the local school when they decide to buy a new house. My parents did the same. We finally chose Edison mainly because of the high quality of its school.

In New Jersey, an area with a good school usually means a concentration of Asian people. There are about 300 students in our school. 55% are Asians and just under half of that are Chinese. There are so many Chinese people nearby that we even have our own Chinese school.

Edison is an old town, just like thousands of others in the United States. However, I have treated it as my hometown. That’s where I spend much of my youth, and the memories there can’t be moved at all.

1.Why did the writer’s parents move to Edison?

A. Because they were born there.

B. Because it was a better educational town.

C. Because the writer began his fifth grade.

D. Because the writer didn’t need to take a test.

2.How many students are from Asia in the writer’s school?

A. About 80. B. About 160.

C. About 220. D. About 300.

3.What does the underlined expression “a concentration of” mean in Paragraph 3?

A. None of B. The whole of

C. A large number of D. A small number of

Every place you leave becomes a memory. Even if you return to visit, in your mind it’s as it was when you left.

I consider New York City my second hometown. You fight your way into New York City. It isn’t easy. It isn’t cheap. It isn’t so friendly. So when I got to Helsinki, the capital of Finland, I was surprised at how easy it was. People were friendly and nice. They are curious about what I thought of Finland.

Except the coffee and the cost of living, Helsinki and New York don’t have much in common, but I was born in the US Midwest, which was heavily influenced by North Europe. So the life of Finland seemed familiar to that of the US.

Still, I missed New York, I visited it last year, and I went to my old coffee room, still in the same place. Although it was 2014, my mind insisted that it was 2007 and I had never left. The waiter looked at me silently, reaching for the same size cup and pouring the same type of coffee I always got. Same corner, same waiter, same coffee.

To the waiter, he guessed maybe I moved to another neighborhood. He wouldn’t guess from my appearance that I haven’t even been in the country. He didn’t find that there was anything different until I opened my mouth. It was something I said, I’m sure. He mistook me for one of the tourists who got lost on their way from Times Square.

In my mind, this is my home. It was the place when I dreamed of my childhood, long after I left it; and now I am the same as the other tourists with the packbag.

1.Helsinki is in __________.

A. Finland B. America

C. New York D. China

2.Compared with Helsinki, the life in New York City is _________.

A. easy B. cheap C. difficult D. nice

3.The writer’s real place of birth is _________.

A. New York City B. Helsinki

C. Finland D. the US Midwest

4.How long had the writer been away from New York before he visited it last year?

A. 5 B. 7 C.9 D. 10

5.What made the coffee guy think the writer to be a tourist?

A. What he looked. B. What he wore.

C. What he said. D. What he did.
