【題目】 You frown (皺眉) when you are angry or upset. Your parents pat(輕拍) your head to show their love. Some players like to throw their arms forward. It seems they’re flying, after they score. Body language is everywhere. How important is it?
Body language does not use words. It is communication with the movement or position(位置) of your body. The way you stand, a hand gesture are examples of body language. And it also includes facial expressions.
According to American scientist Edward T. Hall, in a conversation between two people, 65 percent of communication is body language. In some cases you can even express yourself without any words at all. For example, your friend asks you to come on a picnic with him, you give him an “OK”gesture to say: “Yes, sounds good!” Sometimes, your words say one thing but your body language says another. You may touch your face unconsciously (無(wú)意識(shí)地) while telling a lie.
In different cultures, the same body language may mean different things. In the US, eye communication during a conversation means you are interested in what the other person is saying. But in some Asian countries, it is impolite to look straight at a person when you are talking to him or her.
People in some countries use different body language to show the same meaning. In France, people kiss cheeks (臉頰) to say hello. The Japanese prefer to bow and Maoris in New Zealand touch noses when greeting.

【題目】 When you are eating dinner with your family, do your parents ever remind you to finish all the food on your plate? If so, you should know it’s not just because they want you to be healthy. They also want to stop food waste.
Every year, 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted around the world, according to the UN. That’s about one-third of all food produced each year.
We make a survey in 34 countries to see how much food is wasted in different countries.
For example, the UAE(阿聯(lián)酋) wastes the most food, with each person wasting about 1,000 kilos every year on average.
However, some countries have worked hard to use their food resources wisely. France wastes the least amount of food, according to the survey. France was the first country to pass laws that ban(禁止) food waste. It’s not allowed to throw away fresh food. Another law forces French restaurants to provide bags for people’s leftovers(剩菜剩飯).
China ranked 23rd for food waste in the survey. China’s food waste is around 18 million tons every year, enough to feed up to 50 million people for one year. Facing this situation, China has been working hard to reduce food waste. In early 2013, a movement to prevent food waste called “empty plate” began. Cooperation and competition are both important. They’re necessary for a person to achieve success in life.
Learn to be cooperative with others. No one likes a selfish or greedy person. However, everyone likes a cooperative and friendly person. Everything we do today, whether in doing business or making friends, depends on our ability to get along with one another. In our society, most tasks need cooperation in order that they can be finished successfully. So we must try to be cooperative. Each person is like a small part of a machine. If one part is out of order, the machine can’t be running well. Besides, transportation and communication systems are developing quickly, and people all over the world can keep in touch with each other more easily. It’s hard for a person that is away from the society to have a deep understanding of the world he lives in. Cooperation is becoming more and more important for a person to lead a good life.
Being competitive also has a place in life. If you want to get more success and be better than others, you must work harder and study more carefully. The desire to succeed and do better than others encourages us to work harder. If there were no competitions, a sports meeting would never be exciting or successful. We often compete to get a better environment. We cooperate with others to be more competitive.
