Lots of kids hate school, a new study found. Usually this kind of feeling doesn’t last long. But what happens if you feel this way too much? School is a fact of life and getting a good education can help you build the kind of future life you want. So let’s talk about school and what to do when you don’t like it.
If you don’t like school, the first step is to find out why. You might not like school because you don’ have enough friends, or maybe you don’t get along with your teacher. Sometime it’s a big problem with your classes and school-work. You may be getting farther and farther behind, and it may seem like you’ll never catch up.
When you know why you don’t like school, you can start taking steps to make things better. It’s a good idea to talk to someone about your problems with school. Your mum, dad, teacher or school counselor(顧問) will be able to help you. Another good idea is to write down your feelings about school in a notebook. It’s a great way to let out emotions(情緒). Remember, you don’t have to share what you've written with others.

(B) What are you going to do if you are in a burning house?
Escaping(逃離) a fire is a serious matter. Knowing what to do during a fire can save yourself. It is important to know the ways you can use and to show them to everyone in the family, such as stairways (樓梯) and fire escapes, but not lifts(電梯).
From the lower floors of the building, escaping through windows is possible, learn the best way of leaving through windows with the least chance of serious injury (傷害).
The second floor windows are usually not very high from the ground. An average (普通的) person, hanging by the finger-tips will have a drop of about six feet to the ground. It is about the height of an average man. Of course, it is safer to jump a short way than to stay in a burning building.
Windows are also useful when you are waiting for help. Be sure to keep the door closed, or smoke and fire may be drawn into the room. Keep your head low at the window to be sure you get fresh air rather than smoke that may have leaked (滲入) into the room.
On a second or third floor, the best windows for escaping are those which open onto a roof . From the roof a person can drop to the ground more safely, dropping onto stones might end in injury.
【小題1】From the beginning, we know that it is important to .

Dear Liz,
My stay in Thailand has certainly been the experience of my life.
Life is busy and exciting.Bangkok is just like any other big city with a population of 10 million and heavy traffic.I'm very lucky because my host family is in a nice quiet area outside the city. There are Mr. and Mrs. Phairat, their son Sanan, who is 18, the daughter Chinda, who is 16, and Grandpa and Grandma.
I go to an international school with Sanan and Chinda. The school teaches about 70 percent in English, and 30 percent in Thai. The father’s role in the family is important. One researcher says babies who are cared for by their fathers have greater cognitive(認(rèn)知的) development at one year of age than babies not cared for by their fathers. Another researcher reports that by spending time with their-pre-school children, fathers can help to develop children’s language ability. Researchers also point out that for school-age children, fathers are one bridge with the outside world.
Father who value(重視) education have children who do better in school than those children whose fathers don’t value education. What’s more, fathers who spend quality time with their children may give their children happy memories which may last a lifetime.
While each father is a unique person who educates children in his own style, good fathers have something in common.
Good fathers attend their children’s school activities. They also involve the children in their lives and the adult world by taking them to see the workplace, or by taking them when the car needs to be repaired, etc.
Good fathers expect a great deal from their children, but also accept and support the unique individuals(個(gè)體) that their children are becoming.
Good fathers prefer explanations and reasoning to force.
Good fathers know their time with children is really an investment(投資) in them.
Being an involved father is good for children and good for fathers. Both children and fathers have the chance for growth and development. Today’s lifestyles are changing. More and more fathers are keeping a balance between their personal life, work, and family time.

Some students like to translate(翻譯) when they practice speaking English. Translation is a very difficult exercise. During a conversation, we don’t really have time to translate what we understand. When we use translation, we don’t develop the necessary reflexes (反應(yīng)能力) needed to speak and understand a foreign language. It is important to build up reflexes right from the beginning. It will help you later when your skills are good enough to take a conversation.
Here is some advice on how to build up reflexes when you only have basic words and grammar.
Relax!
No one is checking you except yourself! Look at each communication experience as an adventure. Try to relax first when you speak English. You will pick up on small details.
Context(上下文) is your friend.
What is context? It means the situation in which something happens and that helps to understand it. (2)We can make good guesses about what is being said by using the context. It will be easy when you think about the context. You will feel much more comfortable and confident if you remember that.
Ask questions what you want to know.
After you have proudly asked for tickets at the train station, the booking-office clerk (售票員) spoke a long sentence to you about the place and the time. You may be a little unclear or have only understood a part of it. However, you can ask questions about what you want to know, such as, “Did you say…?” and “Would you repeat that more slowly?”. So that you can easily move the communication forward. Use body language.
Use body language to go with your words when you __(1)___ to learn a __(1)_____ language. The person you are speaking to only wants to understand you and will be carefully listening to you. As you become more proficient (熟練的) in your second language, you will depend(依靠) more on the language and less on body language. But there is no shame for a beginner.

Saturday, June 16th
In the morning, we went camping in Green Natural Park. We were happy because it was a sunny day. We were looking forward to a wonderful two-day holiday. On the way, we kept singing and making jokes.
However, in the afternoon, when we finished our picnic at one o’clock, it was dark and windy. Soon, there was a shower(陣雨). Unluckily, none(沒有人) of us brought an umbrella. We ran about but we could find no place to hide.
Twenty minutes passed and it was still raining. There were hours to go before we reached the campsite (野營(yíng)地). It was even worse that our small compass (指南針) showed that we went to the wrong way. We lost our way!
We had to make a quick decision(決定)because it was raining heavily. Chris said we could put up a tent to hide in, so Mary and Tom helped to put up the tent. Chris and I tried to make a fire to keep us warm. But we weren’t able to light(點(diǎn)燃) the fire, because everything was wet. We dried ourselves, chatted and waited inside the tent. At about five o’clock, it stopped raining. We decided to give up (放棄)the camping trip because all of us were very tired.
This camping trip may not be successful (成功的) but we know each other better. And the most important thing I’ve learned from this camping trip is team spirit(合作精神).
