My father and I loved each other. Yet, I always regretted(后悔)never hearing him put his feelings into words and 50 having the memory of that moment. Why is it so hard to tell a 51 something from his heart? My mouth turned 52 , and I knew I would be able to get out only a few words clearly.
“Daniel,” I said, “If I could have picked, I would have picked you.”
I wasn’t sure whether he understood 53 I meant. Then he came toward me and threw his 54 around me. For a moment, the world and all the people 55 , and there was just Daniel and me in our home by the sea.

My mind seems always to return to the day when I met Carl. The city bus stopped at a corner to the passengers(乘客).1 was included. After getting on the bus, I looked for a place to sit. At last, I found a seat near the back.
The passenger of the next to the one I was going for was an old man in a grey suit. Seated myself, I began to read the book I had been carrying which was Jack Kerouac's On the Road. Waiting for Carl to tell me that I listen to real music, I was shocked when he just smiled and nodded. He said, "You me of myself when I was your age. I remember how my parents hated jazz, how they couldn't see how I could listen to that terrible noise. I bet your parents say the same thing, don't they?" Now it was my to smile and nod.
As the bus took us from one side of the city to the' other, Carl and I talked about a lot of different things. The more we talked, the more amazed I became at the two of us really had in common, although we had the difference. I haven't seen him we parted, but the thought of our relationship that day never leaves my mind.

One afternoon, my son came home from school and asked me, “Are all people the same even if their skin color is different?” I thought for a moment, then I said, “I’ll explain. Let’s go to a fruit store first. I have something interesting to show you.”
At the store, I told him that we needed to buy apples. And we bought some red apples, green apples and yellow apples.
After we got home, I told Adam, “It’s time to answer your question.” I put one of each type of apple on the table: first a red apple, followed by a green apple and then a yellow apple. Then I looked at Adam, who was sitting on the other side of the table.
“Adam, people are just like apples. They come in different colors, shapes and sizes. See, some may not even look as delicious as others.” As I was talking, Adam was examining each one carefully.
Then, I took each of the apples and peeled them, placing them back on the table, but in a different place.
“OK, Adam, tell me which one is the red apple, the green apple and the yellow apple.”
He said, “I can’t tell. They all look the same now.”
“Take a bite(一口) of each one. See if that helps you tell which one is which.”
He took big bites, and then a huge smile came across his face. “People are just like apples! They are all different, but if you take off the outside, they’re pretty much the same on the inside.”
“Right,” I agreed. “Just like everyone has their own features but they are nearly the same.”
He completely got it. I didn’t need to say or do anything else.
