【題目】 What do you see when you look at abstract(抽象) art? Does it make sense to you? Does it look like anything? Is it supposed to?
Abstract art became popular in the early 20th century. Artists did not want to paint, draw, or sculpt things exactly(確切地) like they looked. They didn't want their art to be realistic. They were more interested in basic shapes and colours.
Picasso is probably the most famous of these artists. He painted and drew in many, many styles. Sometimes he used a lot of blue colours (his "blue period"). Later, he used more red and pink colours (his "rose period"). Many of his other paintings are called "cubist(立體畫派)" because they are made of painted squares.
After a long time, Picasso's paintings became more and more abstract. He painted people and things using strange shapes. His work was so original; many of his fellow artists didn't understand it.
Kandinsky, another famous artist, used lines, shapes, and patterns to paint his subjects. His paintings also used strong colours to express feelings.
Other artists like the surrealists(超現(xiàn)實主義者), were interested in subconscious(潛意識). Painters like Breton and Magritte used many symbol in their work. The meaning or subject of their work wasn't always clear. Dali, another surrealist artist, painted pictures that look like dreams.
There are still many abstract artists around the world. That's the way many artists prefer. They want each person to look at art and find their own meaning in it.

【題目】閱讀下列短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容完成表格,每空限填一詞。
Now telephone, television, radio and the Internet all help people communicate with each other. As a result, ideas and news of events spread quickly all over the world. For example, within seconds, people can know who wins the vote in another country. An international football match comes into the homes of everyone with a TV set. When an earthquake or a flood happens in some places, news of these disasters can bring help from distant countries within hours. Help is on the way. Because of modern technology like the satellites (人造衛(wèi)星) that travel around the world, information travels fast.
How has this speed of communication changed the world? To many people, the world has become smaller. Of course this does not mean that the world is really becoming smaller. It means that the world seems smaller. Two hundred years ago, communication between two countries took a long time. In the 17th and 18th centuries, it took six weeks for news from Europe to reach America. This time difference influenced people’s actions. For example, a fight, or a war in 1812 between England and the United States could have been avoided (避免). A peace agreement had already been signed (簽署). Peace was made in England, but the news of peace took six weeks to reach America. During these six weeks, the large and serious War of New Orleans was fought. Many people lost their lives after the peace agreement had been signed. In the past, communication took much more time than it does now.
With the help of modern technology, it’s much easier to get more information within a short time. Our lives are becoming faster and faster.

【題目】 Charles Dickens was born in 1812. His father was a clerk and wasn’t paid much, so the family lived in an old, poor house. Then Mr. Dickens lost his job and went deep into debt(債).
One day, the police showed up and asked Mr. Dickens if he could pay his debts. When Mr. Dickens said he didn’t have enough money, one policeman answered that he had to go to debtor’s prison.
With no one to support them, Mrs. Dickens and the children, except Charles, moved into prison with their father. Even though Charles was only 12 years old, he got a job in a dirty, black shoe polish factory working 12 hour days.

A month later Dickens was shouting joyfully, “They printed my story! I’m an author!”
