One night, I was sitting in my kitchen half listening as my 15-year-old brother Tommy fought with my 12-year-old brother Kevin. I didn’t pay attention when Kevin rushed up the stairs with the hurt on his face.
About 20minutes later, as I was walking upstairs I heard Kevin crying inside the ____. I knocked on the door and asked, “Hey Kev, do you want to talk?” No answer. I tried again, “Hey, why don’t you come out of there?” Again, no answer. So I took a stack of(一堆) cards and a pencil and wrote, “If you don’t want to ______, we can write notes to each other.”
An hour later I was _______ sitting on the floor outside the bathroom with two stacks of cards in front of me. One was blank(空白的) and the other was cards _____Kevin on which he had translated all his unpleasant feelings into words for me.______ I read one of Kevin’s notes, tears came to my eyes. It said, “______ in this family cares about me, I’m not clever. Tommy thinks I’m a fool and Dad wishes he had the other Kevin as a kid because he’s better at basketball. And you’re never around to even ___ me.”
Tears came to my eyes as I wrote back to him. It was ______what he had said about me. I wrote back, “You know Kev, I really do love you and I’m sorry I don’t always show it to you. I am here for you and you are _____ in this family.”
There was no answer for a while, but then I heard a tearing sound coming from inside the bathroom. Kevin, who had _____ cards wrote on a torn-up(撕毀的) paper cup, “Thanks.”
I wrote back “For what?” It returned to me with “l(fā)oving me” written on it. Since then, I try my best to ____ half notice my family members any more. Kevin and I have a closer _____  now, and sometimes when one of us notices that the other is upset we’ll smile and say “Write it on a paper cup.”

Peter Qwen has been making wigs (假發(fā))since the 1980s . He has made wigs for the stars of more than seventy movies ,including Tom Hanks in Philadelphia, Johnny Depp in Sleepy Hollow and Nicole Kidman in The Others. One of his biggest jobs so far has designed the hair and makeup for the three Lord o f the Ring movies . He had just six weeks to design and make more than a hundred wigs, each one a different style, color, shape and length.
The hair and makeup in a movie are just as important as the costumes or the sets. Over the years, Peter has made actors look older, younger, healthy and sick. For one movie he even made a female actor look like a man! "What people don't realize about wigs is that we are not always making people more beautiful," he says. "Often we are covering up beauty and making them look ordinary."
All Peter's wigs are handmade using human hair, so they look as real as possible. This also makes them very expensive -between US $ 4,500 and US $12,500 each! He knows he's done a good job when people don't realize the star of the movie is wearing a wig. So he was pleased when one newspaper said that Nicole Kidman had dyed her hair dark brown for a movie. Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the guestroom. Instead the angels were given some space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied, "Things aren't always what they seem."
The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable (好客的) farmer. After sharing a little food they had, the farmer and his wife let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest. When the sun came up the next morning, the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been their only income, lay dead in the field.
The younger angel was very angry and asked the older angel, "How could this happen?" "Why didn't you watch out for the cow? The first family had everything, yet you watched over his house," she accused (譴責(zé)). "The second family had little but was willing to share everything, you didn't help."

She was a poor girl who worked to get money to pay for her lessons. She became the famous woman scientist of her time. That's the story of Marie Curie's life. She didn't mind working and she didn't care about the honors(榮譽(yù))that were given to her in later years.
Marie was born in 1867. Her name was Marie Sklosovska then. She lived in Poland. Her father was a teacher. Everyone soon saw that Marie had a quick mind.
Marie's mother died when her youngest daughter was only ten. From then on, Marie knew that she would have to work hard at her lessons if she wanted to be successful(成功的)in her life. She studied very hard and was one of the best students at her school.
