One night, four naughty(頑皮的)boy students stayed out of school having a late party at a night club and having a great time. They were partying so happily that they forgot they were going to take an exam the next day.
The next morning, they got up too late to take their exam. In order not to be punished, they thought of a plan which they believed was perfect. They made their clothes dirty and went to the teacher’s office.
“ Mr. Johnson, we went to a friend’s house last night in another town. On the way back, our car got a flat tire(爆胎), so we had to push the car all the way back to school. That’s why we didn’t make it for the exam.”
The teacher listened to their story, and told them in a kind voice, “It doesn’t matter. I am going to give you another chance to take the test three days later.” The four students thanked him and left happily.
The test day arrived in the end. The teacher asked them, “I am going to put each one of you in a different room for the test. Are you OK with that?
“OK”, the students were fine with that because they had all studied hard. Then they got the test paper. It had only two questions.

On June 26, 2000, two scientists, called Francis Collins and Craig Venter, told the world that they could now read the whole “map” of the human body: DNA. DNA is something that everybody has, and it tells the body what to do. DNA is the reason that we look like our mother and father, because we get some of their DNA to make our own.
People have been trying to understand the human body for a long time. In 1860, Gregor Mendel discovered a special reason why we look the same as other people in our family. It is because of small things named “genes” in our body. In 1953, James Watson and Francis Crick made another discovery and found out that those small parts are real messages written in the DNA with a special language.
In 1961, Marshall Nirenberg and Johann Matthaei found a message in DNA showing how DNA tells the cell (細胞) to build its parts. Scientists have now found all the words in the DNA map, but we still do not understand what they all do. By understanding what just one “word” means, we can help save more people from several illnesses.
Most people hope that this will help make better medicine and help sick people. Other people worry that when people begin to know more words and find out lots of other information, we might use it in a wrong way, just to make people more attractive, or stop sick people from getting jobs. Man would have to meet a lot of trouble if DNA technic wasn’t limited in use.

Have you seen Avatar(《阿凡達》)? It’s a popular 3D movie, and you may have to wear 3D glasses to see it. The 3D glasses make the images(圖像)from the movie look as if they were coming straight towards you.
More and more 3D movies are coming to theaters. Some say that 3D TV sets will come into our homes in the near future. 3D technology can make TV and movies are more exciting. However, people with eye problems may get headaches if they spend too much time watching 3D movies. Why?
When we look at an object(物體), each eye sees it at a different angle(角度). Our eyes send the two images to our brain(大腦), and the brain puts them together. 3D technology uses two film projectors(投影機). One projects a left-eye-image and the other projects a right-eye-image. 3D glasses allow us to see a different image in each eye. So, when we are watching a 3D movie, our brain can’t put together the images sent to our eyes. The brain needs to work harder at “reading” the images. That makes it easier for people with eye problems to get dizzy(頭暈的) or have headaches. A famous eye doctor said if your eyes can’t focus(聚焦) on the same object at once, you will have trouble watching 3D movies.
