【題目】閱讀下面的短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問題。

Apps are taking the place of teachers as technology plays a bigger role in language education.

Ma Ruining has been studying English for a long time, but her teachers are not in the classroom — they’re in the palms(手掌) of her hands. Ma has several English learning apps. They are often for users who want to improve their English, from listening to speaking.

Although she’s tired from eight hours’ office work, she does not spend her free time just relaxing by watching TV dramas as she did before.

She takes out her mobile phone and begins to practice her spoken English with an app called Liulishuo (“speaking fluently” in English), which offers ways to people looking to improve their spoken English.

A 10-second audio clip(音頻) by native speakers is then played on the app as Ma starts her lesson. After that, the app asks her to imitate(模仿) the piece. The app then scores her performance on a scale (數(shù)值范圍) from 1 to 100 and gives advice on how to make improvements.

“If you score more than 90, it means your pronunciation is good,” says Ma, who has been practicing English every day on the phone for the past six months.

“At first, I usually only get a score of 70 as I often mispronounce,” adds Ma, 26. “I graduated two years ago, but I wanted to improve my spoken English to study or travel abroad some day in the future.”

English learning apps make it convenient for people to study English. So what English learning apps are you using now?

【題目】 How much do you know about Earththe planet that we live on? Our knowledge of Earth has been developing since ancient times. However, many puzzles () about Earth remain unsolved. Live Science has published a list of the eight biggest mysteries about Earth. Let’s look at some of them.

Where did water come from?

When it first came into being 4.5 billion years ago, Earth was a dry rock. So where did all of our water come from? Scientists think that it might have arrived in the form of ice by an asteroid (小行星) from outer space that hit our planet. But this idea has not been confirmed (證明) because there is very little related evidence(相關(guān)證據(jù)) to be studied.

What’s in the core (地核)?

Scientists used to study meteorites (隕石) as small examples of Earth, believing that Earth’s core was made of iron and nickel (). However, a later study in the 1950s proved this way to be wrong because it found that Earth would be too light to provide gravity (引力) if its core contained only iron and nickel. Today, scientists continue to bring forward different ideas, but none have been confirmed.

How was the moon born?

Scientists have found that the chemical compositions (成分) of Earth and the Moon are very similar. That suggests that the Moon actually came from Earth. For example, it could be a piece of Earth that separated when Earth hit another planet. It is also possible that when Earth first came into being, it spun (旋轉(zhuǎn)) very fast and threw off enough molten (熔化的) rock to later form the Moon.

1What’s the main idea of the passage?

A.How Earth came into being.

B.Where Earth’s water came from?

C.How the moon was formed?

D.Unexplained mysteries about Earth.

2What do we know about where water may come from?

A.Earth’s water may come from ice that melted 4.5 billion years ago.

B.Earth’s water may come from a small planet that hit Earth.

C.We don’t know where water came from.

D.There is lots of evidence that tells us where water came from.

3What does the underlined phrase “bring forward” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?

A.CheckB.Raise

C.ImproveD.Receive

4Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A.Scientists used to believe Earth’s core was made of meteorites.

B.A study in the 1950s proved that Earth’s core is made of iron and nickel.

C.The moon and Earth are made of similar materials.

D.Three possibilities of where the Moon came from are mentioned.

【題目】 Do you have good friends? Do you sometimes feel so close to them that they are like family to you?

It turns out that this isn’t just an expression. A study by Yale University has found that you and your friends have more genes(基因) in common than strangers do. Researchers looked at the genes of 1, 932 people and compared them in pairs of unrelated friends and strangers. They found that friends have 1% of genes that match.

“1% of genes may not sound like much to the layperson(外行), but to geneticists(遺傳學(xué)家) it is a larger number,” Professor Nicholas Christakis of Yale University told Discovery News. In fact, this is the same amount of genes you share with your fourth cousins, those who have the same great-great-great grandparents as you.

So do you happen to become friends with people who share your genes? Not at all. In fact, it is evolution(進化) that brings you together.

People who share certain genes also share skills and have similar likes and dislikes, researchers said. In ancient times, it was important that people who were alike stayed together. For example, people who had a similar susceptibility(易感性) to the cold were more likely to help each other build a fire, giving them a better chance to stay alive.

Researchers also found that among all the genes studied, those producing a change in sense of smell were the most similar in friends. This is probably because people who smell things in the same way are more easily drawn to similar environments. For example, people who like the smell of coffee may hang out at cafes(咖啡館) more often and as a result are more likely to meet and become friends with each other.

With their findings, the team has developed an interesting test called the “friendship score”. It can help tell how big the chances are that two people will be friends by studying their genes.

So, here is a question for you: would you like to take this test and know in advance(提前) who your friends are going to be, or would you still prefer to learn about it by yourself and let time be the judge?

1From the passage, we know that friends ________.

A.look like our cousinB.share 1% of genes with usC.feel close to our family D.can help us when we feel cold

2According to the passage, the writer probably agrees ________.

A.we develop our friendship by chanceB.our genes decide who we can make friends with

C.everyone should take the test called “friendship score”D.people sharing certain genes have skills and interests in common

3The writer takes the example of ancient people in Paragraph 5 to ________.

A.study how ancient people dealt with the coldB.predict that similar environments lead to friendship

C.prove that it is evolution that brings friends togetherD.explain why ancient people gave each other chance to keep alive

4Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

A.Friendship: Its Influence on People and BehaviorB.Friendship: Its Benefits to Teens and Decision Making

C.Friendship: Is It Necessary to Be Judged by Time?D.Friendship: Is It Possible to Be Influenced by Genes?

【題目】 You have tried too hard but you don’t succeed; you’ve made all your efforts but you don’t get the results you want. What should you do? Give up and turn over a new page. Drop it like it’s hot, and run in the opposite direction as fast as you can.

Do you feel surprised? What is wrong with giving up? Oh yes, we all have been trained and asked to work hard to achieve our dreams, and that is a good thing. The problem comes out when all these inspirational quotes (勵志名言) start confusing us.

These messages tell people not to give up, but they don’t tell you that it should only apply to (適用于) your true dreams. They tell people to “try and try again” until they succeed, but that amount of effort should only be put toward what people really want in life and they should never give up no matter what life goals they have. The rest is all just there to confuse you, distract (使分心) you, give you a headache and sadness, so don’t let it happen.

If you are really not good at something, give it up and try to do something you like. Once you do something you like, you won’t feel bored and also won’t give it up. You know clearly what you want even the road to success is hard. So you need to know what you’re good at. To find your talent, you need to observe (觀察) the things around you and write down the things you’re interested in on your notebook. Then you can search them on the Internet, and know more about them. Asking your parents or friends for help is also a good idea because they can see something you can’t. They can help you know yourself clearly.

Try to discover your talent, your ability and your skills. Find out what you are good at, what makes you happy and then work on it. If you do, no one would have to tell you or inspire you not to give up because when you love something, you keep trying until you get it right and the enthusiasm flows from within. Don’t worry about what people will say or think. It’s your life, so you have to love it and be your own boss.

1Inspirational quotes are suitable for those who ________.

A.are successfulB.have no life goals

C.have true dreamsD.never give up

2Once you find something you like, you won’t ________.

A.achieve your dreamsB.feel bored or give up

C.know yourself clearlyD.continue it

3Why can you ask your parents for help to find your talent?

A.They can see something you can’t.B.They are good at everything.

C.They are older than you.D.They know how to help you.

4The underlined word “enthusiasm” in the passage means?

A.happinessB.curiosityC.abilityD.warmth

5What’s the main idea of this passage?

A.We can’t believe everything about inspirational quotes.

B.It’s not a bad thing for us to give up sometimes.

C.Each of us has our own talent and skills.

D.Anything is not so easy to do well.
