Chinese painting, known as “guó huà” in Chinese, is done with no oils but a brush put in colored or black ink on paper or silk. “Landscape painting” and “Bird-and-flower painting’’ are considered the two most popular forms. The first one usually covers “mountains, rivers” and the second one covers “flowers, birds, insects or fishes”. Plum blossoms, orchids, bamboos, and chrysanthemums (梅蘭竹菊) are good symbols to choose.

Plum blossoms are highly praised for their beauty. And also, Chinese people think they are brave and not afraid of the heavy weather in the cold winter when other flowers wither (凋謝). In addition, they are a symbol of good luck for the coming spring.

Orchids are known for their sweet smell. They’re much loved by people because of a clean and beautiful look. In China, the true friendship is often compared to “the orchid friendship”.

Bamboos can also deal with the cold winter. In the ancient tradition, it was a custom to set off fireworks, which were made of bamboos, to say goodbye to the old and bring peace to the new. So bamboos are used as a symbol of peace and safety in Chinese paintings.

Chrysanthemums bloom (開花) in late fall. No matter how strong the wind is. they don’t drop a petal(花瓣). The ancient poets always used them to describe pure people. The famous poet Tao Yuanming in the Eastern Jin Dynasty described his peaceful life through his best-known poem “While picking chrysanthemums’ neath the Eastern fence, my gaze upon the Southern mountain rests.”

To Chinese, plum blossoms, orchids, bamboos, and chrysanthemums not only mean four plants, but also mean the personality and behavior that Chinese admire. That’s why they are known as “Four Gentlemen” in traditional Chinese art and literature.

閱讀表達(dá) 閱讀下面的短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問題。

Some people seem to have extraordinary (非凡的) memories. Zheng Aiqiang, a “memory athlete” on TV show Super Brain (《最強(qiáng)大腦》), can remember 2,660 numbers in just one hour!

You would think people like this have special brains. But according to a recent study by researchers from the United States and the Netherlands (荷蘭), the brain structure (結(jié)構(gòu)) of ordinary(普通的) people and 23 of the world’s leading memory athletes shows no difference.

That’s because good memories can be trained. New research in the journal Neuron (《神經(jīng)元》) suggests that you can become a super memorizer with just six weeks of hard training, reported The Guardian.

Researchers found that a technique (技巧) called loci, invented by the ancient Greeks, can greatly help improve memory.

By using loci, you are using your imagination to improve the brain’s memory networks. You can link (關(guān)聯(lián)) something you need to remember with a place that you know very well. For example, to remember a list of numbers, imagine yourself walking through your house. Each thing is linked to a number. For example, zero could be the handle (把手) on the door and five could be the painting on the wall.

“Not everyone can become a (memory) champion. But everyone using the technique can improve a lot from the level they’re at,” said Boris Konrad, one of the researchers in the study.

回答下面5個(gè)問題,每題答案不超過7個(gè)詞。

4.How long does it take an ordinary person to train hard to be a super memorizer?

5.Who was loci invented by?
