My name is Marieke Herz. I’m 13 years old. I'm studying at a middle school in a village called Hankensbuttel, Germany. Let me describe a typical day at school.

On school days, I get up at 6: 30 am, and then go to school by bus. My first class starts at 8: 15 am. Each of our classes lasts for 45 minutes. We have some breaks that are either five or 15 minutes long, but our lunch break is 50 minutes. School usually finishes at 2: 20 p.m. after the lunch break.

We have 14 subjects, including math, English, German, Latin, French, science, art, music, history, geography, sports and religion (宗教). My favorites are math and art, but if you have the right teacher, any subject can be great.

Our lunch break starts at. 1: 30 pm. We can have lunch or take a nap. When you eat in the cafeteria (餐廳) you have different choices for what you can eat. Sometimes they offer meat or noodles, for example.

My favorite after-school activity is tennis. I play tennis for seven years and I love it. It's a good way to relax.

Every summer, we have Abi-UIk Day. On that day, students won't have any lessons, but will instead play on the playground. We can play games together and have fun for a whole school day.

In Beijing, starting from May 6, 2013, a jaywalker will face a fine of 10 yuan.

In my opinion, we should find out the reasons for running the red light completely, instead of blindly punishing them. We should strengthen education of obeying traffic rules. Encourage drivers to learn the driving awareness in developed countries, put the traffic lights in a scientific way and take necessary management measures. In this case, the traffic order in China will be greatly improved.

Studying abroad

I am from Toronto, Canada and I moved to Madrid, Spain in September to pursue my master's degree（碩士學位）. After almost two years of full-time work, I realized that I loved my field so much that I wanted to pursue higher education in the same field. Then I decided to pursue a Master's while having an experience abroad in Madrid. I chose Madrid because it is the business capital of Spain. They have amazing food, great wine, amazing culture and a beautiful language.

I am studying abroad in Amsterdam in the Netherlands at the University of Amsterdam now. I have always wanted to study abroad because I wanted an experience studying in the Western atmosphere（氣氛）. I choose the Netherlands because their courses are taught in English and that is very convenient for me. It is also a very student-friendly country.

Being an international student is a very interesting and useful experience. I got to know so many interesting students and discussed with them about different topics, not just about studies. What I wanted to experience most was the European lifestyle and cultures. Aside from the cultures, you also get to properly enjoy your time with others according to the real French lifestyle.

As I got closer to graduating from high school, I began to consider spending a year or so travelling, either before or after studying at university. I was really excited to go outside of the UK. Studying abroad has given me the confidence to continue pursuing opportunities that lie outside of my comfort zone（舒適區(qū)）.
