【題目】

Music and Art will enter the Entrance Exam for the high school in Jiangsu. Without music, life would be a mistake. Music is a big part of our lives. But in recent years, some US schools have cut music classes to control budgets (預(yù)算).

For example, Chicago public schools hurt arts education when it fired (解雇) over 1,000 teachers. Among them, 10 percent of the teachers taught art or music, according to The Washington Times. In fact, this is not just a problem in the US. In other countries, such as China and the UK, music classes are not thought to be as important as ones like science, math and history. That’s partly because music is not seen as a very important life skill, and it isn’t tested. Many students are busy with schoolwork, so parents and students choose to focus on subjects that are tested more often.

However, learning music is beneficial (有益的) in many ways.

(4) When playing music, you need different abilities to work together. It is not as simple as it looks, according to Kenneth Guilmartin of Music Together, an early childhood music development program. For example, when playing the piano, people see music notes and decode (解碼) them in their brains. They also use their fingers to make sounds. You need to deal with all these things at the same time.

Music has a special connection with science as well. You can see that many scientists are good at playing music: Einstein played the violin, and German physicist Max Planck was talented in playing the piano.

【題目】閱讀下列短文,根據(jù)短文中的信息完成文后表格。(每空一詞)

Louis Cha Leung-yung, one of the greatest Chinese wuxia fiction writers, passed away on October 30, 2018, at the age of 94. Better known by his pen name Jin Yong, Cha built a fantastic wuxia world and created different types of heroes admired by a large number of fans.

It is said that where there are Chinse-speaking communities, there are people reading Jin Yong’s books.

In 1950, Cha, a newspaper reporter, met and worked together with Chen Wentong, who wrote wuxia stories under the pen name of Liang Yusheng. Encouraged by Chen, Cha began to publish his first novel five years later. Then he set up daily newspaper Ming Pao with Shen Baoxin in 1959, where he published some of his following works. Today, Ming Pao becomes one of the most important newspapers in Hong Kong which influences the society and people’s life.

From 1955 to 1972, Cha wrote 14 novels and one short story of wuxia. The interest and taste of readers have been changing, but his books continue to be attractive. His works have been adapted into films and TV series for many times, such as The Return of the Condor Heroes(《神雕俠侶》).

No matter how smart and strong Cha’s heroes appear, they are not perfect and make mistakes from time to time, just like all of us in real life. What makes someone a hero is the courage and ability to make decisions and devote themselves to their communities. The kung fu masters in the books are loyal to friends and family while brave enough to die for their homeland if needed.

The purpose of Cha in writing novels is to show traditional values and qualities. “Traditional values are shown through the characters and their stories, not by talking to readers,” Cha once said.
