                              Decide to Do Well 

      Everybody makes decisions in daily life. They can be as important as what you will do in the future or as simple as what you will eat for breakfast. 21. 任何決定可能成為你人生的轉(zhuǎn)折點。I made an important decision when I was in Junior 3.

      Before I made that decision I was one of the boys who tried too hard to act as an adult. I didn't know that only,kids want to show themselves as adults.

      I didn't listen to my parents and teachers,and my grades became poor. 22. Then came the high school entrance exam.

      At the turning point of my life,my mom wanted to have a conversation with me. I wanted to turn it down but when I looked at her eyes,I felt I couldn't refuse. Instead of asking me to study hard,to my surprise,Mom just asked what I wanted to do in the future. 23. 沒有思考太多，我就說我想好好用功學習。

      Mom smiled and asked again： “I asked: what do you WANT to do?”

      I never seriously thought about the question. So,I kept silent.

      It took me what seemed to be ages to make the biggest decision so far in my life — I wanted to be a man who makes a difference in the world. To achieve that,I needed to study hard.

The path to my future became clear to me. I didn't act rebelliously (叛逆地) any more. With passion in my heart,I studied hard.

      Now,I'm 17 and 25. I'm in one of the best schools in my city,in one of the best classes at the school and I am one of the best students in the class.

      Thanks to that decision,I have become what I am today.

       Long ago,people did not need money. They lived on wild animals,fruits and other plants. Later,people began to use money as a means of exchange. However,it was not the kind of money we use today. They used shells,rice,salt,large stones,etc.

       Two men were going through a forest.

      “I am afraid ,” said one ,“that we may meet with wild animals. Fear nothing,friend Quickwit ,” cried the other,whose name was Braggart. “If they come at us,we shall stand by one another like men.I have a strong arm,a strong heart,and...”

     “Hark!” cried the first in fear,6. 因為在不遠處聽到了一個低沉的聲音。Braggart,who was light and nimble,climbed up a tree like a squirrel (松鼠) ， leaving his friend,who was not so active,to face the danger alone! 7. Quickwit could do nothing but throw himself on the ground and pretended (假裝) to be dead;8. for he had heard that bears would never touch a dead body.
