Are there some days when you don’t want to take a bath? An invention called DryBath

can solve your problem---you can get clean by using it without taking a bath!

A few years ago, Ludwick Marishane and his friend enjoyed a day at the beach. At the end of

the day Ludwick’s friend was so tired that he didn’t want to take a bath. Then an idea came into

Ludwick’s mind---why not invent something to help people get clean without taking a bath?

Ludwick ran home, did some research (on his mobile phone because he didn’t have a computer)

and over time invented DryBath.

During his research, Ludwick also learned that over 2 billion people in the world live

without improved sanitation (衛(wèi)生設(shè)施). That’s about one third of the world’s population.

Ludwick wants to help not only his “l(fā)azy” friend, but also people who can’t easily get clean.

Staying clean can help people keep in good health.

Some hotels are also interested in DryBath. It can save a lot of water and help save the

Years ago, I lived in a building in a large city. The building next door was only a few feet away from mine. There

was a woman who lived there, whom I had never met, yet I could see her seated by her window each afternoon, sewing or reading.

After several months had gone by, I began to notice that her window was dirty. Everything was unclear through the

dirty window .I would say to myself, “I wonder why that woman doesn’t wash her window .It really looks terrible.”

One bright morning, I decided to clean my flat, including washing the window on the inside.

Late in the afternoon when I finished the cleaning, I sat down by the window with a cup of coffee for a rest. What a

surprise! Across the way, the woman sitting by her window was clearly visible. Her window was clean!

Then it dawned on me. I had been criticizing(批評(píng)) her dirty window, but all the time I was watching hers through

my own dirty window.

That was quite an important lesson for me. How often had I looked at and criticized others through the dirty window

of my heart, through my own shortcomings?

Since then, whenever I wanted to judge(評(píng)判) someone, I asked myself first , “Am I looking at him through my own

dirty window?” Then I try to clean the window of my own world so that I may see the world about me more clearly.

1.The writer couldn’t see everything clearly through the window because___________.

A. the woman’s window was dirty B. the writer’s window was dirty

C. the woman lived nearby D. the writer was near-sighted

2.The writer was surprised that _______________.

A. the woman was sitting by her window B. the woman’s window was clean.

C. the woman did cleaning in the afternoon D. the woman’s window was still terrible

3.It's clear that__________________.

C. they both worked as cleaners D. they lived in a small town

4.From the passage, we can learn__________________.

B. one should often make his windows clean

C. one must judge himself before he judges others

D. one must look at others through his dirty window

Dolphins are not fish. They are mammals. They live in groups and speak to each other in their own language. But they are quite different from almost all land animals. Their brain is as big as man’s and they have a long life-at least 20 or 30 years.

Like some animals, dolphins use sounds to find their way around. They also use those sounds to talk to each other and to help them find food. They do not use their ears to receive sounds, but use the jaw-the lower part of the mouth.

It is strange that dolphins are friendly to man, and for thousands of years, there are many stories about dolphins and man. In the 19th century, in a dangerous part of the sea near New Zealand, there was a dolphin. The seamen liked him very much and gave him a very good name, Jack. From 1871 to 1903, Jack met every boat in the area and showed it the way. In 1903 a passenger on a boat with the name of The Penguin shot and hurt Jack. Luckily the dolphin didn’t die, and after a long time he was well again. He guided the ships through the area for nine more years, but he refused to help the boat The Penguin.

Today, some people still kill dolphins, but many countries in the world now protect them. In these places, people are not allowed to kill them.
