I have a friend named Monty Roberts who owns a horse ranch(牧馬場(chǎng)). The last time I was there he told me his story. When he was young, his family was too poor to have a house to live in.As a result , when he was in high school, all the students were asked to write a paper about what they wanted to be and do when they grew up. That night he wrote a seven-page paper describing his goal of owning a horse ranch. He also drew a picture to show a 4,000-square-foot house that would sit on a beautiful farm. The next day he handed it in to his teacher. Two days later he received his paper back. On the front page was a large red F. Roberts asked, “Why did I receive an F?” He teacher said, “This is an unrealistic dream for a young boy like you. Owning a horse ranch requires a lot of money.” Then the teacher added, “If you will rewrite this paper with a more realistic goal, I will reconsider your grade.”
The boy went home and thought about it for a long and hard time. He asked his father what he should do. His father said, “ Look, son, you have to make up your own mind on this. However, I think it is a very important decision for you.”Finally, after sitting with it for a week, the boy turned in the same paper, making no changes at all. He told his teacher “you could keep the F and I still keep my dream”.
He tells me this story because I am sitting in his 4,000-square-foot house in the middle of the 200-acre horse ranch. “I still have that school paper now.” He added, “The best part of the story is that two years ago that teacher
brought 30 kids to camp out on my ranch for a week.” When the teacher was leaving, he said, Look, Monty, I can tell you this now. When I was your teacher, I was something of a dream stealer.During those years I stole a lot of kids’
dreams. Luckily, you had enough gumption not to give up on yours. .”

International tourism is becoming more and more popular. Large numbers of people from all over the world come to visit famous places, such as the Great Wall of China and the Sistine Chapel(西斯廷教堂)in Vatican City. These visitors contribute (貢獻(xiàn))a lot to the local development, but at the same time they have caused many problems. They’ve thrown rubbish everywhere, brought more traffic and even done serious damage(破壞)to these places.
As for the damage, there are many different causes. For example, the paintings in the Sistine Chapel are being damaged because people breathe onto them when they visit. Damage in other places such as the Great Wall is serious partly because tourists climb on delicate(脆弱的)areas. Even though some of the walls were built of stone, after so many years, they are already in poor condition and need to be rebuilt.
▲On the one hand, we have to cut down tourist numbers, because fewer visitors will result in less damage. On the other hand, we should make strict rules about which areas people can visit and what they can do when they get there. For example, special paths(路徑)can be built and people will not be allowed to walk off the paths. Visitors to indoor places can be asked to wear masks(面罩)to protect the paintings.
It is necessary to control tourism at famous places. If we do not do this, these places will disappear from our planet. And people who live hundreds of years later will have no chance to see these great places.
1.What does the underlined word “tourism” in Paragraph 1 mean in Chinese?
A. 交流 B. 污染 C. 購(gòu)物 D. 旅游
2.What causes the Sistine Chapel to be damaged?
A. People’s writing their names on its walls.
B. People’ s breathing onto the paintings.
C. People’ s drawing on the paintings.
D. People’ s climbing up its walls.
3.Which of the following can be put in ?
A. Why are these places so popular?
B. What has been done to protect these places?
C. What can we do to deal with these problems?
D. How much money is needed to rebuild these places?
4.What is the writer’s purpose of writing this passage?
A. To predict the future of famous places.
B. To call on people to protect famous places.
C. To ask people to travel less during holidays.
D. To explain why international tourism is popular.

In many countries, people celebrate Screen-Free Week. It is on the first week of May every year. People are encouraged to turn off screens during the week.
Supporters of Screen-Free Week say turning off tech devices(設(shè)備)is good for kids. According to a study, kids slept better and got better grades when their parents limited(限制)their screen time. Also, some people think Screen-Free Week can help kids develop a good habit. They point out that many kids who took part in the event in the past now spend less time using tech devices.
However, not everyone supports the idea. Some people argue that screen time is OK as long as kids don’t overdo(濫用)it. Also, others say turning off tech devices completely for a week won’ t teach kids how to balance(兼顧)screen time with other activities.
Here’s what two students think:

Davis, 14, New York
NO! Not all screen time is bad for kids. There are many educational television shows, apps and websites which help kids learn.
