It’s a cold, grey Sunday afternoon in March. The light is slowly fading, but all over Britain people are working in their gardens. They’re digging, cutting leaves and planting new weeds. By summer, their gardens will be full of bright colors.
The British love their gardens. A British newspaper recently asked people for their opinions about them. Seventy percent of people felt it was important to spend time in the garden, and over half of these described gardening as the most enjoyable thing they ever did.
Only one in ten houses in Britain do not have a garden. You can, of course, just grow house plants inside or on your balcony.
Once it was only the very wealthy who had a garden. You can still see the huge gardens that surround historic houses such as Chatsworth House or Castle Howard. Ordinary people used their land to produce food to eat or sell, or grew herbs to make medicine.
In the nineteenth century, however, gardening became a hobby. About the same time, better transport meant people could buy different kinds of seeds and plants for their gardens. Although roses, sunflowers, onions and tomatoes are often grown in British gardens, they grew wild in other countries before.
In many villages and towns there are competitions for the best looked-after gardens. This year the winner was a little village in Northern Ireland. It’s already won four prizes for its beauty. People also take part in competitions to grow the largest vegetables, but don’t expect to win. Britain’s biggest carrot is almost six meters long!
A newspaper asked people what they grew in their gardens. Look at the diagram which shows their answers.

Do you have any effective ways of learning to share? Here are some tips on how to ________ the Exam Season.
Prepare yourself
My first tip is to prepare yourself for reviewing. Let me explain what I mean by this.
During the term, you’re going to take a lot of notes and go to all the lectures, and these are the first steps in the learning ________. Now, at the end of the week, gather all the notes you took and run through them quickly. While doing this, constantly(不斷地) ask yourself, “Do I understand what I am reading?” If yes, great. If not, ask a friend or a teacher; you can also ___________ on the internet or go to a library. This take a little effort, but the results will be worth it.
There are two big advantages. You understand ___________ before the exam period starts, so you don’t have to bother other people with your questions during this stressful time, and the second benefit is that you have seen the material before you start reviewing, so you’ll probably remember some things, and it makes reviewing ___________.
Switch between different types of revision
My second trip is to plan between different types of revision in order to study more efficiently. ___________you are motivated(主動積極的) to study, everyone gets bored after a couple of hours of studying. We get distracted or tired from time to time. Planning different types of active revision helps. You can , for example, study using flashcards for an hour, then work on a summary for an hour, then have lunch, etc.

It was early one hot morning in 2015 when I was gently wheeled across our quiet street in my wheelchair to the taxi stand with my mother. Three weeks earlier, I had hurt my left leg at home. Now I f1. had an appointment(預約) for an operation to repair the bad break in hospital.
I was feeling n2. as I'd never had surgery(外科手術) before and the thought of it worried me. After waiting for a taxi for more than 90 minutes, we were still standing across the street from our house, trying to ask for a ride. It usually only takes a few minutes, but on this Sunday taxis would pass by us either already filled with p3. or unwilling to take us. Perhaps it was because of my wheelchair. My mother was starting to get upset as we were fast running out of t4.. Our appointment was 10:45 am and it would take up to 40 minutes to get to the hospital. Then a black SUV pulled over and stopped in front of us. The driver, taking a look at us, said, “You two look like you could use a lift!” He told us he’d seen us e5. as he was taking his son to a weekend school activity. He was now r6. home and saw that we were still there.
With no questions asked this good man welcome us aboard. We arrived at 10:30 ---just in time for my appointment. He r7. my money, saying people should help one another. He left with a smile.
To this day we have not crossed paths again with this friendly driver who went out of his way, but his help is kept in our minds. I am very grateful to this kind stranger who has taught me to keep watch for and help others in need.

"The atlas(地圖冊)I grew up with was a hand﹣me﹣down from my brother, dog﹣eared Collins World Atlas. This became my favourite book, and I was touched that he thought I was grown﹣up enough to appreciate it. After wars, my atlas was considered incorrect and out of date and I had to buy a new one for school. But I still missed the well﹣used pages and old﹣book smell. I carefully tore (撕)pages out of my old atlas, and glued them on cardboard. My father helped me to cut them into jigsaw puzzles as gifts for my friends. Google search is an easy way to find various places, but I still prefer to search for exotic places in a real﹣turning atlas. One day it may be priceless!"

"When I was 13, I wanted a horse of my own. Finally my parents softened to the idea and bought me a beautiful part﹣Arabian horse. To settle on a name, my father suggested I open our atlas to the page on Saudi Arabia, close my eyes and place my finger randomly(隨機地)on the page. Bandar Shah(Royal Port)was a wonderful horse."

Sadly, wear and tear forced its retirement, too."
