In many countries, people celebrate Screen-Free Week. It is on the first week of May every year. People are encouraged to turn off screens during the week.
Supporters of Screen-Free Week say turning off tech devices(設(shè)備)is good for kids. According to a study, kids slept better and got better grades when their parents limited(限制)their screen time. Also, some people think Screen-Free Week can help kids develop a good habit. They point out that many kids who took part in the event in the past now spend less time using tech devices.
However, not everyone supports the idea. Some people argue that screen time is OK as long as kids don’t overdo(濫用)it. Also, others say turning off tech devices completely for a week won’ t teach kids how to balance(兼顧)screen time with other activities.
Here’s what two students think:
YES! Kids spend too much time in front of screens. According to a study, kids spend about seven hours a day in front of TVs, computers and other devices. Instead of sitting around playing video games, kids should be more active. They can make art, play sports or hang out with friends and family.
Davis, 14, New York
NO! Not all screen time is bad for kids. There are many educational television shows, apps and websites which help kids learn. Besides, it’s important for kids to use tech devices, because many jobs depend on knowing how to use technology. Instead of working on cutting kids’ screen time, parents should help kids learn to use tech devices wisely.

Robert W. Coleman Elementary, a primary school in the US. has an unusual method of educating difficult students. Instead of making hose who have broken school rules stay after school or go to the head teacher's office, teachers at Robert W. Coleman Elementary send them to the Mindful Moment Room. This room may sound terrible, but in fact it's comfortable and inviting.
In the Mindful Moment Room, a student is paired with a teacher. For five minutes, the student is allowed to speak with the teacher about what happened. For another fifteen minutes, the student is led through meditation(冥想). The room can be used during school time as well as before and after school.
You may not think a difficult primary school kid would sit there quietly for 15 minutes of meditation but that's true. Most of the children do behave very well in the room. Surprisingly, the results don't stop there. Many children even ask to go to the Mindful Moment Room themselves.
The Mindful Moment Program was created by the Holistic Life Foundation (HLF). Its purpose is to help students and teachers reduce stress and create a better learning environment for students. If you need more proof(證據(jù)) that the program is having a good influence on the kids, HLF cofounder Andres Gonzalez remembers a story.

1.Why are the students sent to the Mindful Moment Room?
A.To make teaching more meaningful B.To develop their interest in meditation
C.To be probably punished by the teacher D.To help them learn to behave themselves

A.feels angry about B.is surprised at C.feels worried about D.is disappointed at
3.What does Andes Gonzalez want to show by telling the story?

These days we are bringing up kids in a generation(一代) that we like to call the iPad generation. Kids enjoy spending hours playing on their computers and phones. Since it seems that most of us parents can’t live without the computer (iPad, phone), it is normal for our kids to feel that that’s the way to go.
But we as parents find ourselves asking the same questions. Some of them are “I don’t want my kid on the computer; Am I right in not letting him use it?”, “Should I allow him to play for so long?”, and” When should I say no?”
A lot of parents believe in not letting their kids use computers. 43 They think that kids are expected to do other things like riding a bike or playing out with friends. At the same time, there is another set of parents who let their kids use their iPads or their phones for long hours. They feel their kids have to be good at using them, or they will be left behind(落后) Well, we shouldn’t stop our kids from using the computer. It can play a big role in the development of our kids. It can be used even without an Internet connection(連接). Kids can use it to draw pictures, read books, listen to music or play games just like any other toy. However, the number of hours that they use it should be controlled.
Let us talk about the Internet now. Is it a big bad wolf? Not really. If used properly, it has a number of information to offer our kids. Kids can know what is happening around them, and read wonderful facts about anything that interests them. There are a lot of healthy, kid-friendly websites that our kids can use. If you do allow your kid to use the Internet, be there while he or she uses it. Make it an experience that your kid enjoys with you. 44 Don’t let the Internet turn into something that just helps you to take care of your kid.
