【題目】Playing is serious business for children. In fact, it’s what they do best! Ask them why they do it, and kids will probably say, “Because it’s fun!” But it’s much more than that. It’s also good for them.

Studies show that from birth babies begin learning through play. They use their five senses to get to know their new world. Touching allows them to discover how different things feel. Brightly coloured toys and clothing help develop a baby’s sense of sight (視覺(jué)). When small children choose which toy to play with, they begin developing their abilities in making decisions.

Children love toys that allow them to use their imagination (想象力). Sometimes an empty box is more fun than a high-tech (高科技) toy. That’s because a box can become anything to a child.

Crayons, paints and Play-Doh (彩色塑泥) are also good because they allow children to create. Traditional building blocks teach important pre-math skills.

Playing doesn’t become any less important once children start school. Many valuable lessons about life are learned on the school playground. Kids learn how to share, take turns and play by the rules.

【題目】When doing his math homework, Lu Lifei, 14, from Jiangsu, came across a problem. He couldn’t work it out. So he took out his cell phone, opened a special app and searched the problem. Answers soon appeared on the screen.

Nowadays, many students do homework with the help of the Internet like Lu. They search information online, use apps or discuss through social networks like QQ and WeChat.

“It’s convenient. You don’t have to wait or get a tutor(輔導(dǎo),約束)on the spot,” Lu said. “You also learn by seeing how others work them out.”

It also improves students’ abilities, said Wang Shiying, 15, from Shanghai. And it’s especially true for new types of homework.

Wang’s Chinese teacher often asks students to give lectures on great authors. When it comes to Wang’s turn, she usually searches online, picks out certain stories and makes PowerPoint presentations.

“I’ve become adept(熟練的) at finding information online and using Microsoft Office.” Wang said. However, this trend (趨勢(shì)) also brings up problems. Some students just copy the answers online without thinking. They become lazy. Huang Pengxiang, a head teacher from Shanxi said that knowing how to use the Internet is important. The key is to have good self-control.

“No matter how difficult the problem is, think about it independently (獨(dú)立地) first,” Huang said. “Be sure to understand the reasons behind the answers, or you won’t make progress. If you’re not confident about your self-control, ask your parents for help.”

【題目】Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you. Well, ni-hao. (Laughter) It is such a pleasure and an honor to be here with all of you at this great university, so thank you so much for having me. I’m here today because I know that our future depends on connections like these among young people like you across the world.

That’s why when my husband and I travel abroad, we don’t just visit palaces and parliaments (國(guó)會(huì)) and meet with heads of countries. We also come to schools like this one to meet with students like you, because we believe that relationships between countries aren’t just about relationships between governments or leaders they’re about relationships between people, particularly young people. So we view study abroad programs not just as an educational chance for students, but also as an active part of America’s foreign policy (政策).

Through the wonders of modern technology (科技), our world is more connected than ever before. Ideas can cross different countries with the click of a mouse. Companies can do business and compete with companies across the world. And we can text, email, skype with people in the world.

So studying abroad isn’t just a fun way to spend a time of learning; it is quickly becoming the key to success in our times. Because getting ahead in today’s workplaces isn’t just about getting good grades or test scores in school, which are important. It’s also about having real experience with the world beyond (超出) your borders—experience with languages, cultures and societies very different from your own. Or, as the Chinese saying goes: “It is better to travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books.”
