【題目】閱讀短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問題

Since I am a student in the second year of university now, I think it is the perfect time for me to take real responsibility for myself and begin a new challenge. I have already had a year life to fit in at university, making friends, and finding out path for my future. This is the reason why I started to do a part-time job in this year.

Interesting enough, local Canadian students can start doing part-time jobs as early as 16 years old. They usually work at places like fast food restaurants or coffee shops. International students like me, however, are not allowed to do off-campus ( ) jobs if they are under 18. As a university student, I have a lot of opportunities to get a part-time job either on or off campus. If I get an on-campus job, I can work in the school libraries or bookshops. If I work outside of campus, I can be a shopping guide at the mall or work at fast food restaurants.

However, what I do for my part-time job is to help international high-school students learn the subjects like English and history. I help these students through online classes. This way, I am actually doing something that a lot of people nowadays could only dream of doing, working from home.

The job really isn’t too stressful because I have some teaching experience back from when I was in high school. I can also learn a lot from it. I see doing a part-time as something that brings me a lot of advantages. For example, it not only gives me some pocket money but also teaches me skills that cannot be learned from university classes. These include skills such as interpersonal communication, time management, and financial (財(cái)務(wù)的) planning.

Some way say that doing part-time will have a bad influence on my school life since it will take time away from my studies. However, I think that part-time jobs are not something that everyone should do. It requires the ability to manage one’s time wisely and find the perfect balance between work and study.

1Is it the perfect time to do a part-time job in the second year of university?

2How old can local Canadian students have a part-time job?

3What is the writer’s part-time job?

4What skills can the writer learn from his part-time job?

5What do you think of having a part-time job in the university?

【題目】One Bite at a Time

One summer day when I was heading for the teaching building, I met Philip, one of my colleagues ( ), who worked in the same office with me. Beside him stood another young man. Philip introduced me to the young man, named Stephen. He told me that Stephen would take one of my classes Introduction to American History. Stephen asked if my class was going to be hard. I felt he was worried about failing before the opening day of classes. We talked about what the class would cover and I saw Stephen’s eyes getting big with fear.

Then I remembered a classical dialogue: Question: “How do you eat an elephant?” Answer: “One bite at a time.”

I told him to deal with his work that way — to do all his assignment (作業(yè)) and to hand them in on time. I added that most successful students I knew made a timetable in order to plan their study well.

As time went on, I learned more of Stephen’s story. He had difficulty in study when he was in the middle school. Family members, including his mother, kept telling him that he was a failure. He told me that before coming to our college no one had believed he had much potential (潛力).

Stephen didn’t become an “A” student. Still, he managed to pass most of his courses by being in class every day, turning in all of his assignment on time and breaking down his studying into bite-sized parts. By passing course after course he began to build up bit of self-respect.

Every time I saw him, he would brighten up and say, “One bite at a time.” He told his friends that he was succeeding when he was supposed to be failing. His secret, he said, was that he was practising what I taught him before classes ever started: “Take it one bite at a time.”

1What is the relationship between the writer and Stephen?

A.Father and son.B.Teacher and student.

C.Classmates.D.Colleagues.

2To plan their study well, most successful students .

A.made a timetableB.chose many courses

C.asked teachers questionsD.took notes carefully

3Stephen’s story mainly tells us that .

A.it is hard to pass courses in collegeB.we all need good luck to make a success

C.bad things can turn out to be good sometimesD.taking one bite at a time can help students succeed

B. Once in a while it’s okay just to take out one earphone and not other. Imagine you are listening on your Mp3 player when someone asks you the way. It would not be rude to take out one earphone, tell him the way, and put back the earphone and continue listening.

C. You need to know when to turn your MP3 off and put it away. Libraries, and schools don’t allow Mp3 Players. There are other places, like museums, that don’t have rules, but it would be rude to have your Mp3 player on.

【題目】 Some of the greatest problems we face today are the destruction ( ) of our environment. Brown clouds, polluted water, endangered wild animals…. these problems seem so huge.

So my family does what we can. We take cloth bags to stores instead of using plastic bags. We walk where we don't have to drive…

But does it do any good? When I am the only one in line at the market with cloth bags, am I doing any good? Does my walking to stores make any real difference to the world?

I recently learned something about flamingos(火烈鳥) which like to get together in groups of a thousand or more. Every year, when the time comes for migration(遷徙), a few of them first take off from the lake. But none of the others seem to notice. So the small group returns. However, the next day they try again. This time a few more fly along with them, but most of them still pay no attention, so they return again. They try for several times. Every time a few more birds join in but, since thousands of the others still take no notice, the great migration plan is once more stopped.

Then one day something changes. The same small group of birds once again starts flying and a small number more join in just as before. then more. Finally, they all take flight and the migration really begins. What a spectacular sight it must be — thousands of flamingos taking off into the sky at once !

A few can make a difference. Even if you're the one to take the first step, and continue trying, others will someday take notice and together we will solve even our greatest problems.

1What problem is the writer talking about?

A.Jobs.B.Population.C.Environment.D.Health

D.the writer’s family eat too much meat

3What does the underlined word "spectacular" in Paragraph 5 probably mean?

A.worrying.B.amazing.C.terrible.D.harmful

4Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A.Even if we can walk there, we still drive over.

B.Brown clouds and polluted water are the only problems we face today.

C.Flamingos like to get together in groups of a thousand or more.

D.When a few of the flamingos first take off from the lake, all the others follow at once.

5What's the writer's purpose of writing this article?

A.To show that the writer loves to see the migration of flamingos.

B.To show that there are many problems in the world.

C.To introduce a special kind of flamingo to readers.

D.To tell readers to continue trying and it can make a difference.
