Colin and Theony McRae, from South Africa, kept a giraffe as a pet after it was found close to death in the wild(野外).

The animal, named Fenne, lived with them as it grew from 5 feet at birth to huge 10 feet at age two. It slept outside the house of their large farm, and joined the family as they ate and played. The oversized pet would come running when its name was called, just like a dog.

Fenne would even try to join the family inside the house, although it had trouble getting through doorways. While most kids are playing iPad games or going out with friends, American boy Dean Miller is helping out at a fire department in Ohio.

Dean is 14 years old. He wants to help in every way he can. He goes out on calls with the fireman and helps clean the trucks, windows and floors.

“It feels really great because you know you were helping people to keep them safe,” said Dean.

Dean’s grandfather and great-grandfather were both firemen. His grandfather was once a fire chief(長官), so Dean was able to start helping early on.
