科目: 來(lái)源:2010-2011學(xué)年江蘇省無(wú)錫市濱湖區(qū)初三4月調(diào)研英語(yǔ)試題(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

It’s cool, it’s hot, and everyone is doing it. People talk about it often, and friends tell other friends how good they look. Sound like a fashion? In fact, it’s another trend (流行趨勢(shì)): “blog”. What’s a blog? A blog is a personal online diary. The word “blogger” means a person who writes diaries online.

Many bloggers are teenagers who log (進(jìn)入) onto websites to discuss anything in their lives. Many of today’s teenagers are not afraid to openly discuss everything in their lives. Teenagers complain about parents and homework. They share diaries, post songs from the latest bands (樂(lè)隊(duì)) and show pictures of theirs. They write their own poems, say something about their girlfriends or boyfriends and complain to each other or offer support. But mostly they just write down what they do every day.

However, many parents are worried about these young bloggers. Parents see the kids talking about how they got drunk last weekend and how they don’t like studying. They are using language that is surprising to their parents. Besides hearing from their friends, teen bloggers also get messages from strangers. Most of the time, it’s older men asking to meet teenage girls. “These strange men are dangerous for my kids. They sometimes teach my kids bad words,” said Cara Cabral, a mother of two.

Many teenagers and young adults know it’s not safe to use blogs on the Internet. They know they are putting information about themselves in a place they can be seen by anyone. But teenagers are unwilling to give up these new communication tools that have become a way of life for many of them.

1.The word “it” means ________ in the sentence “People talk about it”.

A.the Internet

A.their kids use a surprising language

B.their kids talk about how they don’t like studying

3.Which of the following is NOT true according to (依據(jù)) the passage?

科目: 來(lái)源:2010-2011學(xué)年江蘇省無(wú)錫市濱湖區(qū)初三4月調(diào)研英語(yǔ)試題(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

Some people bring out the best in you in a way that you might never have fully realized on your own. My mom was one of those people.

My father died when I was nine months old. Mom and I lived a very hard life. We had little money, but my mom gave me a lot of love. Each night, she spoke the words that would change my life, “Kemmons, you are certain to be a great man and you can do anything in life if you work hard enough to get it.”

At fourteen, I was hit by a car and the doctors said I would never walk again. Every day, my mother spoke to me in her gentle, loving voice, telling me that I could walk again if I wanted strongly enough. She drove that message so deep into my heart that I finally believed her. A year later, I returned to school — walking on my own!

When the Great Depression (大蕭條) hit, my mom lost her job. Then I left school to support  both of us. At that moment, I decided never to be poor again.

Over the years, I experienced various levels of business success. But the real turning point happened on a vacation I took with my wife and five kids in 1951. I wasn’t satisfied with the second-class hotels available for families and was angry that they asked me an extra $2 for each child. That was too expensive for many American families. I told my wife that I was going to open a motel (汽車(chē)旅館) for families that would never ask extra for children. There were plenty of doubters at that time.

Of course mom was one of my strongest supporters. She worked behind the desk and even designed the room style. But with my mother’s support and encouragement, I never doubted we would succeed. Fifteen years later, we had the largest hotel system in the world — Holiday Inn. In 1979 my company had 1,759 inns in more than fifty countries with an income (收入) of $ 1 billion a year.

You may not have started out life in the best situation. But if you can find a task in life worth working for and believe in yourself, nothing can stop you.

1.According to the writer, who played the most important role in making him walk back to school again?

A.Doctors.

B.Nurses.

C.Friends.

D.Mom.

2.What caused Kemmons to start a motel by himself?

A.His terrible experience in the hotel.

B.His various levels of business success.

C.His mom’s support.

D.His wife’s suggestion.

3.Which of the following best describes Kemmons’ mother?

A.Modest, helpful, and hard-working.

B.Careful, helpful and beautiful.

C.Loving, supporting and strong-willed (意志堅(jiān)強(qiáng)的).

D.Strict, humorous and supporting.

4.Which of the following led to Kemmons’ success according to the passage?

A.A poor family, hard work, higher education and self-confidence (自信).

B.Mom’s encouragement, clear goals, self-confidence and hard work.

C.Clear goals, mom’s encouragement, a poor family and higher education.

D.Mom’s encouragement, a poor family, higher education and better chances.

科目: 來(lái)源:2010-2011學(xué)年江蘇省無(wú)錫市濱湖區(qū)初三4月調(diào)研英語(yǔ)試題(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

Height is just one of the thousands of features (特征) that your genes (基因) decide. In fact, because you have two parents, your genes provide you a height that usually lands somewhere between the height of each parent. If both your parents are tall, then maybe you will be tall, too, but if you have questions about how tall you’re going to be, ask your doctor if he or she can help you find it out.

But genes don’t decide everything. For example, eating an unhealthy diet can keep you from growing to your full potential (潛力). Getting enough sleep and enough exercise will help you grow to the right height.

No doubt you’re wondering how fast you should grow. There’s no perfect or right answer. Kids grow about 2 inches (5 centimetres) a year between age 3 and the time when they start puberty (when your body starts changing and becoming more grown up).

Your doctor will know how your growth has been going over the years. Two centimetres here and 2 inches there are not nearly as important as the height you’re at now, how you’ve been growing up to this point, and what other changes your body may be going through.

Don’t be scared if you seem to have grown a lot in a very short time. Everyone has a very quick growth during puberty. The age for starting puberty is about 10 for girls and about 11 for boys. But it can be earlier or later – between 7 and 13 for girls, 9 and 15 for boys.

You’ll usually begin to notice that you’re growing faster about a year after your body starts to show the first changes of puberty.

1.The Chinese for the underlined word in the third paragraph “puberty” is           .

A.童年時(shí)期

B.?huà)胗變簳r(shí)期

C.習(xí)慣養(yǎng)成期

D.青春期

2.If you want to know how fast and how tall you should grow,          .

A.you should have enough exercise

B.you can ask doctors for help

C.you should protect the environment

D.you can record your growth during puberty

3.This passage is mainly about            .

A.how the genes work in your body

B.when is the time you grow fast

C.why you look like your parents

D.how you grow to a certain height

4.After reading this passage, we can explain ___________.

A.how good it is to be a doctor

B.how much sleep we need

C.why genes can’t decide everything

D.what an unhealthy diet is

5.Which is NOT mentioned (提及) in the passage?

A.Your height most probably depends on (取決于) how tall your parents are.

B.Girls’ age for starting puberty is usually earlier than that for boys’.

C.The time showing the first changes of puberty is never noticed.

D.You may be scared sometimes when you grow too fast.
