　　When my son, Mark, was in the third grade, he saved all his pocket money for over three months to buy holiday presents．The third Saturday in December Mark said he had made his list and had twenty dollars in his pocket．

　　I drove him to a nearby supermarket．Mark picked up a hand basket and went in while I waited and watched in the car．It took Mark over 45 minutes to choose his presents．Finally he came to the checkout counter(交款處)and reached into his pocket for his money．It was not there! There was a hole in his pocket, but no money．Mark stood there holding his basket, tears falling down his face．

　　Then a surprising thing happened．A woman came up to Mark and took him in her arms．"You would help me a lot if you let me pay for you," said the woman．"It would be the most wonderful gift you could give me．I only ask that one day you will pass it on．When you grow up, I would like you to find someone you can help．When you help others, I know you will feel as good about it as I do now．"

　　Edith Cavell was born in a little English village．She was a clever, hard-working girl and did well at school, especially in music and French．After she left school, her first job was to take care of the children of a rich family in Belgium(比利時)．The language they spoke was French, so she found that her school studies were useful．She could understand them easily, at the same time she taught the children to speak English and play the piano．

Live Music－Late Night Jazz

　　Enjoy real American jazz from Herbie Davis, the famous trumpet(小號)player．He's coming with his new 7-piece band, Herbie's Heroes．Herbie is known to play well into the early hours, so don't expect to get much sleep．This is Herbie's third visit to Shanghai．The first two were sold out, so get your tickets quickly．

Scottish Dancing

　　Take your partners and get ready to dance till you drop．Scottish dancing is fun and easy to learn．Instructors(教練)will demonstrate the dances．The live band, Gordon Stroppie and the Weefrees, are also excellent．

Exhibitions-Shanghai Museum

　　There are 120,000 pieces on show here．You can see the whole of Chinese history under one roof．It's always interesting to visit, but doubly(雙重)so at the moment with the Egyptian Tombs exhibition．There are lots of mummies(木乃伊)and more gold than you've ever seen before．Let us know if you see a mummy move!

Dining－Sushi chef in town

　　Sushi is getting really big in Shanghai．In Japan , it's become an art form．The most famous Sushi “artist” is Yuki Kumura．She's also one of the few women chefs in Japan．She'll be at Sushi Scene all of this month．
