Aniston was born in Sherman Oaks, California, and grew up in New York City. She lived in Greece for one year as a child with her family, and they later relocated to New York City. She went to the New York Rudolf Steiner School and graduated from Manhattan's Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. In 1989, she moved back to Los Angeles, California.
Aniston moved to Hollywood and played her first television role in the short—lived series Molloy in 1990, She also co-starred in Ferris Bueller, a television show adapted from the 1986 hit movie FerrisBueller's Day Off. The series, however, didn’t succeed. Aniston then appeared in two more failed television comedy shows, The Edge and Muddling Through, and guest-starred on Quantum Leap, Herman's Head, and Burke's Law. Aniston wanted to give up acting because of the failed shows.
But the sitcom Friends changed her mind. She played in it from 1994 until the show ended in 2004. The program was hugely successful and Aniston became famous for her roal Rachel in it. Her hairstyle in the program, which became known as the "Rachel", was widely copied at he time .
Besides being a TV actress, Aniston has enjoyed a great film career. Her biggest box office success to date was 2003’s Bruce Almighty. The film made $243M at the Unite State box office and almost twice that worldwide .Aniston’s 2004 film ,A long Came Polly also did well at the box office.

At the end of eight grade, our class went to Washington, D.C. For a group of 14-year-olds, this was a big deal!
The first day was so tiring; we could hardly remember where we were and what we were seeing. The next morning, we were off to see monuments (紀(jì)念碑),starting with Washington, Lincoln and Jefferson. We walked along the paths through trees. Then the Wall came into view—the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
As I moved slowly closer to the Wall, I heard a bagpipe(風(fēng)笛)in the distance, which seemed to show respect to the lives lost in the jungles of Vietnam .
We continued walking and felt surprised at the number of names carved in the black stone. I was determined to find a soldier with my last name, but my hunt was stopped when a man caught my eyes. He was kneeling(跪著) at the Wall, a single rose at his feet. His head was bowed and he was rubbing his fingers over one name. I thought how sad he was, and then moved on .
After a few minutes I found one with my last name, but my eyes returned to the kneeling man. He was still rubbing his fingers over the same name. He never knew I was watching him, lost in deep sorrow. It was time for me to leave the kneeling man and the Wall. On the way home, I couldn’t help thinking of the kneeling man and his sad face. I wasn’t sure of the effects of war before, but at that moment I realized how much that man suffered from losing his loved one. Maybe he was the only one of so many families who experienced the same .
I never knew the full effects of war until I saw that man. I only know about war from history classes. The kneeling man taught me more about war and the effects it has on people than any history book .
小題1:Which of the following makes the author feel the suffering that war brings to human beings?
A.The kneeling man.B.The sound of a bagpipe.
C.The number of names carved in the stone. D.The jungles of Vietnam.
小題2:The man continued to rub his fingers over the name probably because_____.
A.he found it covered with dustB.he missed the loved one who died in a war
C.he intended to remove it completelyD.he recalled the fierce war he fought in
小題3:What did the author learn from the trip?
A.How fierce war is in history.B.How people remember those who died in wars.
C.What bad effects war had on many families.D.What we should do to prevent war.
小題4:According to the last paragraph, the author probably thinks that _____.
A.he should have studied history hard in class
B.history books don’t tell readers the truth
C.there is more in history than books tell us
D.the kneeling man should be a history teacher

Every year in America, high-school students who want to go to college take a national examination called the Scholastic Aptitude Test, or SAT in a shortened way. Their score is an important factor in determining which colleges will admit them or whether any will be admitted at all. The Scholastic Aptitude Test measures one’s mathematical ability and use of the English language. Traditionally, the English portion(部分)involved grammatical questions and paragraphs that test reading comprehension.
But the SAT folks have added a single question, to be answered in an essay, hand-written on the spot. That’s an interesting way to test writing ability, put content aside, have you ever seen young people’s handwriting lately? Or anyone’s for that matter, in this age of computer keyboards? Students write numbers and sign their names on bank checks. They scribble class notes in what can generously be described as the written word. And they hand-write, or more often print, a word or two of identification on luggage and lunch bags. Otherwise penmanship (書法) — once taught so morally and easefully by second-grade teachers, has gone the way of the dodo bird which has died out.
Yet today’s kids are asked to write, thoughtfully and legibly (字跡清楚地), for several minutes on this SAT Test. Good luck to the text scorers who must work out difficultly the scrawl of young people who’ve been typing on computers since the age of three! Teachers insist that good handwriting can not only help one’s score on the SAT, but also, later on in life, impress potential employers and earn bigger tax refunds (退稅) because the tax inspectors can actually read the computations (計(jì)算結(jié)果). And don’t forget, we all have to turn to handwriting from time to time, as computers go down when power goes out.
小題1: The subjects to be tested in the SAT include ______.
A.math, English, reading and handwriting
B.math, grammar, reading and writing
C.math, foreign language and writing
D.math, English and handwriting
小題2:The author writes this passage to introduce the fact that ______.
A.writing seems to be very important in the SAT
B.those who will go to colleges have to take the SAT
C.students should practice handwriting more often
D.in the computer age kids know how to write legibly
小題3: What does the underlined word “scribble” probably mean?
A.Write quickly and roughly.B.Take notes difficultly.
C.Print penmanship carefully.D.Describe written word generously.
小題4:According to the passage good handwriting can ______.
A.help students get high scores in testsB.make a student more popular
C.measure students’ abilityD.a(chǎn)ssist one to get a job
