One possible version: 

    I still remember the day when I got the lowest score in a physics exam and was laughed at by some classmates. Discouraged as I felt at that time, I made up my mind not to lose face again. Instead of distraction, I became active in class and did extra exercises out of class. Whenever I had difficulties, I overcame my shyness and turned to my teacher and my classmates for help. Finally I was able to improve my physics a lot, which increased my confidence so much that I took greater interest in study and worked harder than before. After some time, I became one of the top students in my class.

    My experience tells me that it is not what has happened to us, but how we react to it that matters. When something happens, the only thing in our power is our attitude towards it.
