Here is some general information about Edison Elementary School. For more information, you can visit our website which is printed on the cover.

Attendance:

Please contact the office at 480.472.5282 if your child is going to be absent.

Renaissance Reading:

The Accelerated Reader (AR) Program is a computerized reading enrichment program that combines great children’s literature with computer skills. As an individualized reading program, it is designed to motivate students to read more and to read good literature. Students of different abilities can use this program. It is not a competitive program but one that improves any student’s reading ability.

Here is how it works. Students select books in their reading range from our Accelerated Reader Selection and read it at their own pace. Once the student has completed the book, he/she is ready to take an AR quiz. Each quiz consists of 5, 10, or 20 multiple choice comprehensive questions about the book.

After taking the quiz, the computer shows the student how many questions he/she answered correctly, shows the correct answers for missed questions, and praises the students’ efforts with an on-screen personalized message. Passing the quiz assures the teacher and the parent that the child actually read and understood the book. Each student tests independently—reading the quiz questions himself/herself.

The computer keeps track of reading points, books, and average test scores, as well as other data. A student may test on a book only once and should, therefore, have thoroughly read and understood the contents before taking the quiz. Each student is responsible for reading the screen to be sure the quiz, by title and author, is the correct one he/she wishes to take.

Students are recognized for their accomplishments with praise from the teachers and special recognition at the classroom level when individual and/or classroom goals are met.

Have you ever noticed that the more you have the more you want? Let’s face it. Thinking our life is good enough doesn’t come naturally to many people. When we have high expectations of everything in life we will run into disappointment. Only when we are aware that needs are different from desires can we live with satisfaction. Here are a few ideas to help you be happier with what you have and who you are.

Focus on what you are thankful for. Most people want things to be better than they are, or when things are going well, we forget to appreciate what we have. Learn to reflect on how much better things are than they could be. Focus on what you are thankful for. Write down 5 things you are grateful for right now.

When we hold onto regrets from decisions we have made, it can really poison our well-being. Many people regret something they can no longer change, which ends up holding them back from moving forward in a more positive manner. What happened in the past is done and gone, so work to stay present and be mindful of the current moment to find more joy and fulfillment.

When we use other people as the measuring stick for our personal success and quality of life we are likely to be less satisfied. Social comparisons can provide useful information when we try to learn from others, but they also hold our perspective in a discontented position. Compare yourself less with others so you can be satisfied more.

When you are focused on your big ambitions and future goals you might elide the daily pleasures that surround you. Learn to slow down and absorb the wonder and beauty around you. Stay present and focus on the task you’re undertaking at the moment. Don’t let the life pass you by because you’re always on the go and distracted by ambition.

Practice looking at life through the lens of contentment and it will become more natural.

1.How can we live with contentment?

A. To change our lifestyle.

B. To have a motivation in life.

C. To give less attention to what we are grateful for.

D. To realize the difference between needs and desires.

2.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 3?

A. Make wise decisions. B. Know the present situation

C. Let go of regrets. D. Remember the past.

3.The underlined word “elide”(in Paragraph 5) probably means “__”.

A. enjoy B. change C. create D. neglect

4.What should you do to put yourself in a good mood?

A. Make time for simple pleasures. B. Learn from successful people.

C. Focus on your future goals. D. Create chance to learn more.

Before you accept a job offer, it’s important to really think about the offer. Here are some suggestions about the things you need to consider.

1.

Firstly, is the salary (薪水) listed on your contract and documents the same as you were offered? Secondly, are you happy with the amount? Do you think that the pay you’ll receive is fair for your skill sets and experience? Be sure to do a little market research to ensure you’re being paid a reasonable amount.

Will the location work for you?

No matter how good a role, there’s no point accepting a job offer that is too far from your home. If you’re already spending 40 hours a week at work, adding three hours a day commuting (來回上下班) is far from ideal. 2.

Is there any career development?

It’s all very good if the job you’ve been offered is exactly what you want at the moment, but what about the future? 3. We recommend asking your potential employer before accepting.

Will you like the work culture?

As previously mentioned, you’ll most likely be spending 40 hours a week at this new job.4. Does the company promote a good work / life balance? Do they agree with your environmental / social values? Essentially, will this be a company that you enjoy working for?

How does the new job compare with your current one?

This is relatively simple. If the job you’re being offered doesn’t have as good a role, salary or satisfaction level as your current one, then why are you considering it at all? 5. Have a think about why you want to leave your current job before deciding on the next one.

A. Be realistic & consider whether or not the job’s location is going to work for you in the long run.

B. There’s a big difference between just doing your job and doing your job well.

C. Although change is good, sometimes it’s not always smart.

D. So it’s important that the company’s culture meets your values.

E. Is the salary reasonable?

F. It is very important that you understand exactly the duties in your new job.

G. Whether or not you have the opportunity to grow within a business is an important thing.
